Got so lucky to get David Newland as my instructor. I went into the course more confident in quant, and David is a verbal expert, specifically in critical reasoning. He offered so many helpful materials outside of what Veritas provides that helped me become more confident in my ability to answer each question skillfully. This guy is smart and really knows the GMAT inside and out, which was helpful since I had never taken the exam before. I could hear his voice inside my head as I did practice problems and during the actual GMAT.

Online format was super convenient for me since I'm still in school, but I didn't have time to get to the homework/practice problems as they were assigned.

The Veritas books are amazing! I basically only used Veritas materials to prepare for the exam. The only non-Veritas prep I did was the diagnostic in the Official Guide (didn't have time to get to the rest of the book) and one of the practice tests on GMATPrep. Each book offers hints/advice on how to conquer each question type and is filled with practice questions (around 80 per book, some with 100+) that are so similar to the actual exam. Veritas also provides a yellow board which I used when I took a practice test a few days before my appointment. It was a nice touch and helped me simulate the actual conditions of test day.

I found the Veritas test prep program and resources extremely valuable in preparing for the GMAT. After almost 5 years out of school, I had nearly forgotten how to do even the simplest math and have always struggled with grammar. The live online class was structured enough that it helped me pace my studies, and was great in that it provided a live, interactive setting for learning, while still allowing for a good amount of flexibility.

My instructor, Brian, was wonderful as well. He did a good job encouraging participation in the online setting. He was extremely knowledgeable and taught a lot of helpful strategy in addition to the typical coursework. I definitely would not have done nearly as well had I not taken the course, and highly recommend it to anyone planning on taking the GMAT.

Veritas's easy-to-access online self study tools provided me with the flexibility to work my full-time day job while concurrently studying for the GMAT.

The first and most obvious point to make is that my Veritas course greatly improved my GMAT score. I took the GMAT once during the course in order to make first round deadlines, and then again 3 weeks after the course on Ethan's recommendation. My first score was adequate, but when I completed the course, I blew the test out of the water. There is really no other explanation for the improvement in my score- my Veritas course enabled me to absolutely beat the snot out of the GMAT.

Veritas was especially valuable on the quant side. I hadn't taken a math course or really thought about math since freshman year of college, when calculus and I had a pretty serious falling out. When I started the course, I struggled with my times tables. It was bad. Veritas not only got me to where I needed to be in terms of remembering everything I forgot from 10th grade, but it stressed the importance of speed and got me nailing some of the toughest problems in less than 2 minutes. When I took the GMAT the second time, I was miserable because I thought all of the math questions were too easy and I was getting questions wrong. Turns out I was just going in extremely well prepared.

Verbal was previously a strong suit for me, but for the hardest problems there is really no good answer, and you need to understand what the test makers are thinking. After I took the GMAT the first time I realized I needed to start drinking the Veritas cool-aid as far as their approach to verbal. I have no doubt that it helped me to hit the 99th percentile on the verbal side.

I'll also go out on a limb and say the course works for folks who struggle on the verbal side as well. We had a hispanohablante in our course who initially needed a lot of help in terms of grammar and English in general. Ethan gave him a lot of great advice which he must have taken to heart; by the end of the course he was crushing sentence correction and ID'd errors that I was missing.

For me personally, the most valuable part of the course was the practice it afforded, and the structure that I really needed. The course forced me to be thinking about and doing GMAT problems for at least 6 hrs a week, and usually much more than that. Additionally, the Veritas problems are very similar to actual GMAT problems, and Ethan stressed the importance of using the official GMAT book. So not only did I get the practice hours I needed, I was practicing the right thing. Looking at some materials from other test prep organizations, I can't say the same of their sample problems.

If you've gotten this far you likely understand that I would recommend this course to anyone based on how effective it was. I feel like Ethan specifically was responsible a lot of this- some of the most helpful frameworks he gave us were of his own creation. Additionally, Ethan made the course enjoyable. He managed the material with ease and he truly cared about how his students did on the test. He ensured everyone was engaged and kept the atmosphere lighthearted- no small feat when you're talking about this heinous test for 3 hours straight. He also loves the 90's references. Trust me, it's awesome. Bottom line: I don't think I could have stuck with this course had the instructor been a dial tone. I was getting home to this test after working 12 hour days, and I can honestly say I enjoyed it.

Last point, using a standardized testing framework: other GMAT courses are to Veritas as WalMart is to your local coffee shop. Veritas is a small organization. I called the help line a couple times and got connected with an insanely smart Vermonter who went beyond answering my questions and forwarded some materials on data sufficiency questions, with which I was struggling. If supporting smaller organizations is important to you, this is an added bonus.

To summarize, Veritas helped me crush the GMAT, and made the whole process as enjoyable as it could possibly be. Ethan is the man, and it's an organization worth supporting. I hope this review helps you make the right choice in a GMAT prep course.
