I signed up for a weekend class with Veritas with the thought that I only needed something to force me to get me started with my studying. Long story short, I was very wrong. Veritas helped me see that there is so much more to doing well on the test than simply practice and some conceptual knowledge. I was fairing somewhat decently with GMAT practice questions prior to the course but I was not confident that I was at that desired 700 level ability, and the explanations in the practice book I had purchased (ahem, Princeton Review) were just not cutting it.

In regard to the class itself, I can say nothing but good things. The four 9-hour day weekend course was quick but highly informative. It did take a little mental stamina to keep focused for that much time at once, but it was definitely rewarding. Brian, the instructor, was a real pro and it was easy to see that he really cared about the quality and usefulness of the class. The materials he passed out were very structured and succinct. Everything he went over had a purpose, so you really get value in the time you invest. Most importantly, the course doesn't just serve as a quick fix for lack of self-study as I had originally thought. Rather, it re-teaches you how to approach the exam by helping you be more efficient and think in a manner that avoids all the pitfalls the GMAT likes to throw at you. I have taken several practice exams already and am consistently scoring in the 700 range. I know that Veritas played a huge part in that.

Brian was totally great, both during the course and in follow-up emails. His approach is very similar to that of one of my friends who is an excellent math tutor; the difference was that Brian clearly knew the test and how to teach it. Despite being online, he was really friendly and was able to draw people out in the chat room. He gave the impression that he was having a good time and like he could keep going for hours, even after 8-hours straight teaching.

As for the content, for a 2-day intensive couse I think it really hit the fundamentals and did so by working through examples from the start. It really makes me wish i had time for the longer course!

Location-wise, it was online so the commute was great!

The only problem was the headset they provided - I have a new MacBook Pro, which has a combined jack for both mic and listening. I didn't have time to acquire an adapter that would let me use it. In the end, I didn't have to talk to the instructor, so it all worked out with my normal headphones.

So why the title? The content was great, I really liked the strategies, the books are solid. For folks who end up in the 99th percentile like my friend who's in a math PhD program but short on cash, I figure it's nice to work for a company that isn't providing mediocre service.

I attended the Veritas Prep full weekend course: 7 Saturdays, 6 hours each. First off, Ethan is a terrific instructor. His teaching style is highly interactive, and he is very attuned to each of his students' needs. In addition to the Veritas Prep course materials, Ethan sprinkles in his own test-taking strategies, all of which are extremely helpful.

The Veritas Prep course materials are pretty comprehensive. Quant materials mainly involve covering the fundamentals, whereas Verbal materials focus on approaches to different question types and subtypes. VP practice CATs were ok (compared to Manhattan GMAT's practice CAT, I would say that MGMAT Quant questions tend to be a little more devious), but I enjoyed the VP practice quizzes online, mainly because I felt they had good practice questions for employing VP strategies.

My favorite aspect of Veritas Prep is their after-hours tutoring. They have phone support on weekends as well as in the evenings on weekdays. Additionally, they have an online office hour session every Sunday night (I think this just starting this summer). I found the latter sessions to be extremely helpful in my studying.

This class completely exceeded all my expectations. I was already pretty solid in math, so I was primarily focused on improving my verbal score; however, I picked up a lot of useful tricks for math as well. I'm pretty sure that taking this course raised my GMAT score from "not too shabby" to "pretty fantastic." Plus, I actually had a lot of fun, and who ever thought I would say that about a full-day class that ate up my every Saturday in the summer? Highly recommended.

I did extensive research before signing up for this course, as it did cost a little more than I was looking to spend. A few of my colleagues at work had taken the same course and highly recommended Veritas Prep.

I am very happy to report that I found the course to be worth every penny! Everything about the course was well executed and incredibly resourceful. I have so much information about anything I could possibly think of having to do with the GMAT at my fingertips! I expecially loved my instructor, who I truly felt wanted to help the students in any way he could.

Ethan is a really great teacher. Smart, funny, and made the 6 hours each Saturday far less painful than they could have been.

Took a practice test before any preparation or starting the class and scored a 640 but felt confused on how to best approach and plan my studying. The class helped to understand how to approach the different question types and develop a strategy to answer them quickly. Improved scores on the official mock tests quite substantially ahead of the actual test.

I took the online version of the weekend course. If you are short on time this is a good option. I realized that I needed more work afterwards but I still improved considerably after just those two days. The instructor even spoke to me personally on the phone after the course was over to give me some more help before I took the test.

Good luck!

This was an excellent course for anyone who has an extremely busy schedule that varies from week to week, and therefore cannot take one of the longer classes. It is a lot of information to take in 2 days, but the instructor, Brian, did a fantastic job.

He broke down the most difficult problems to show that they all have a relatively simple solution. He teaches you how to track trends, spot the traps the test-writers make, and how to build upon what you know in the problem.

This was an excellent course, and it definitely helped me in my studies.

I had the pleasure of taking my GMAT prep courses with Veritas. At first, I was a little hectic about taking a weekend intensive (Veritas only offered weekend courses in Montreal). I was worried that the volume of material the course would cover over 2 weekends would be overwhelming; in hindsight, it wasn't too big a deal though.

Luckily for me, I had the best instructor out there: Bobby Umar! From the moment the first class started, Bobby brought a great deal of energy and enthusiasm into the classroom. His charisma is a great complement to his easy-to-follow teaching style. Expect to laugh a lot during Bobby's classes, as he regularly jokes around with this students and tries his absolute best to make the material as exciting as possible. Make no mistake though, Bobby means business! Don't think his practice problems and teachings won't challenge you. You can really feel his commitment to helping you score among the top percentiles come test-day. After all, to be a Vertias instructor, one needs to score in the 99th percentile, so the teachers know the difficulty you could expect from the GMAT's adaptive style if (WHEN!) you perform well! Mr. Umar also realizes that it takes more than a great GMAT core to get into your dream B-School; he regularly shares tips on how to strengthen your overall application. These tips are truly valuable tools when you begin considering what schools you would like to apply to. Bobby knows a thing or two about positioning yourself to be a top candidate; he was valedictorian of his graduating MBA class. To this day, Bobby and I keep in contact. This is a testament to his passion towards making sure his students excel.

The Veritas textbooks were extremely well written, and easy to comprehend. Moreover, the course literature is separated into individual volumes that cover, in detail, the various subjects tested on the GMAT. The separate textbooks made it easy for me to quickly find subjects that I wanted to ore carefully review in the weeks leading up to test day! I particularly liked the way Vertias incorporated questions into the text at regular intervals in order to "self-check" your knowledge of a particular topic after reading the chapter. For me, this made the lectures a lot more interactive and engaging (and not as tedious and boring as reading long excerpts).

As for the weekend course itself, the instructor really focuses on the main topic areas to be tested. It can feel that as though you are moving very quickly along at times, especially if you find a particular topic difficult. That being said, it is extremely important to at least have perused the books prior to attending, that way you don't feel like you are getting left behind.

Finally, Veritas provides you with the most practice exams (15) compared to other GMAT prep courses. I cannot stress the importance of taking practice exams (preferably every week throughout the program). The GMAT is very much a mental marathon; mastering the topics is as important as developing a proper problem solving pace. Doing as many practice exams as possible will help give you the confidence you need to solve questions efficiently and without wasting valuable time. Your timing should become second nature. Also, Veritas provides you with a re-usable scratchboard and the exact same marker the GMAC forces you to use during the actual exam. The purpose is to get test-takers used to the ink smudging that occurs at times when using the Staedler marker. Remember, you do not have the luxury of using your pencil or pen during the actual exam, and you could have a hard time understanding your own writing if you are unfamiliar with the utensils given on test day.

In sum, Veritas is a great prep program. Although it may seem a little pricier when comapred to other prep providers, Veritas is really a full-suite prep provider tat gives you the tools to ace the GMAT!

Good luck to everyone,
Arturo

My journey from 560 to 710

After taking the GMAT twice and scoring an unimpressive 560 and 580, I decided to take a step back and change my approach significantly. I did some research and ended up enrolling in a Veritas’ GMAT preparation course on Saturdays.

The study materials and the instructor Amit Kakkad were really good and allowed me to retake the GMAT with much more confidence. I think Amit had no easy a task in keeping a group of busy professionals with pace and spirits high during seven Saturdays but the classes were extremely enjoyable and insightful.

I retook the GMAT a few weeks ago and scored 710, a 150 points increase from my first attempt! I’m really happy with this score as it will allow me to apply for the programme that I have been eyeing for a while... The Veritas’ course was instrumental in my preparation for the GMAT, I highly recommend it.
