Fantastic Experience

After looking into the two prep courses that I knew about, Kaplan and Princeton Review, I stumbled upon Veritas Prep and decided to role the dice on them on two factors: 1. They had a lot of great student reviews and 2. Their instructors all had taken the exam, and their results were usually in the 99th percentile.

Needless to say, my instructor knew the material very, very well. Better yet, he knew how to teach it in a digestible manner, and he was readily available outside class time to answer questions or offer suggestions. He had a passion for the material and for learning that made the course very enjoyable, and ultimately helped me learn more and perform better on the exam.

The class size was small, the hours were convenient. The only negative was a small one: the class room was a small, cold one at the U Penn, but that was more of a function of the season than anything else.

Summary: highly recommended. Would absolutely pay the money to go with them again, and I've recommended them to others who have had the same experience.

Review for Veritas Prep Live Online Course

I want to get feedback to the Veritas Prep. I used the Veritas Prep Live Online Course in May-June 2009. I got this opportunity from The Beat the GMAT and Veritas Prep scholarship in 2008.
The Veritas Prep class was fun, interesting and engaging. The lessons were structured extremely well, and the solutions provided in class were clear. The clarity and effectiveness of the lessons are what impressed me the most. I was always challenged and learned a tremendous amount from participating, all in the comfort of my own home.
The Veritas materials are superbly constructed and organized. They have a healthy mix of theory, innovative strategies, and plenty of examples of different levels of difficulty. The different methods in which materials are presented really help prepare you to do your best on the exam. The shortcuts and simple ways to solve problems were particularly useful.
My instructor was very knowledgeable and always eager to look at new ways to teach the subjects. His exhaustive understanding of the topics and ability to communicate concepts from various perspectives/angles enabled him to pull the students in closer. He took into account our requests and concerns. He was very positive and energetic in every class.
As a result I was extremely pleased and impressed with my experience, the Veritas materials, and the people I interacted with.
I would decidedly recommend the Veritas Prep course to anyone that wants to get a high GMAT score.

For those that need origanization

The class goes by quickly. It was twice a week for three hours. In between each class there are many homework problems to work on. Nothing is mandatory, but is in your best interest to do more problems if you need more practice.

Instructor - The instructor was great. Very smart, very knowledge and conversant in the subject matter, patient, easy to understand, and not dull, which is needed if you are taking this course after a long day of work.

One of the best things about Veritas was the vast amount of practice GMAT exams that you have access to. Personally, at the end of the day, I need to take as many practice exams to feel comfortable with the timing, and to replicate the (stressful) environment that I would be taking the exams in.

Downside- The class was that at times I felt like the instructor dedicated too much time to answering practice problems from the homework. Even though that helped me learn, I was hoping for more tips/learning. Also felt that the style of practice problems in the book were slightly different from those that I encountered on the GMAT. So I don't know if VERITAS needs to refresh their practice problems.

Neil Moakley was an all-star. He made himself available before and after class and was able to explain material in a succinct, simple way. While the Veritas material was extremely thorough, Neil's patience, candor, and humor made the class much less of a chore. I'd definitely recommend the UPENN session with Neil.

Bobby Umar is a teacher in the truest sense of the word

I walked into Veritas' GMAT prep course expecting it would be dry, boring and something I would have to 'push myself through.'

I never expected preparing for the GMAT would turn out to be as enjoyable as it was, and give me a number of skills that were directly transferrable to how I approached my MBA.

I believe much of what I got out of the course was down to a fantastic instructor - almost a mentor - Bobby Umar. If you are taking a Veritas Prep course make sure you ask for Bobby... he's brings the course to life, helps you find your strengths, makes the material easy to understand (even permutations and combinations) and is someone you'll want to keep in touch with.

I am pleased to say I achieved the score I wanted and was accepted into the MBA program of my choice.

Thanks to Bobby and the Veritas team.

Very Helpful

This course was very helpful and improved my score from a 440 on the first practice test to a 580 on the actual test which was high enough to get me into 3 of the 4 schools I applied. There were many practice problems and each week you were assigned harder problems than the week before, which was helpful to get your brain accustomed to do types of work that many of us had not done in a number of years. In addition to the books, the fee also covered 5 online practice GMAT tests which was certainly key to working on timing.

Compared to other courses this offered the most amount of classroom hours for the price. Also Neil is incredibly smart and help write the verbal review. From my initial practice test I improved on the quant section but moast notably on the verbal due probably to Neil and the Veritas class.

110% Worth It

I would 110% recommend the Veritas Quant Focus. My teacher was extrememly clear, helpful, and motivating. The course is an entire weekend (which seems daunting) but time flew by due to the level of enthusism.

I learned tricks and trips that helped me greatly and thus my score increased more than 100 points.

As many people learn, the GMAT is less about brains and more about practice, practice, and practice. Veritas teaches you the strategy and even gives you a breakdown on a practice schedule.

The hard materials (prep books etc) I received from the course were extremely helpful.

Again, I would strongly recommmend this course!

I wrote the GMAT on my own and scored 640. I knew I needed to do better to get into a top MBA program, so I signed up with Bobby and Veritas. The structure and rigor of the program - not to mention Bobby's unique tools and strategies - gave me the comfort and confidence to score a 720 when I re-wrote. I highly recommend Bobby to anyone looking to score high.

Worth the time.

Personally, the course was particularly helpful with coaching testing techniques, which allowed me to focus and mentally process questions during the exam. This proved especially handy towards the end of each section when my brain was fried.

I started my first class the Monday after my first GMAT attempt and retook the GMAT the Saturday following my last class. I applied to schools at the last minute and had a 6-week window of time when I needed to retake the exam to reach my 700+ target score. I was not sure I would sufficiently study in time and this course provided me the study structure to do so. Also, since I needed to travel during the 6-week window, the online format was perfect for my needs.

The instructor (David Newland) was excellent. He articulated the answer explanations clearly and was very responsive to questions e-mailed outside of class.

Veritas - Very Helpful

I found the veritas course to be very helpful not only because it was a good review of all the math and verbal concepts I had forgotten about, because I first learned them all in middle school, but it also provide insight into how questions would be asked. For me, the hardest part of the GMAT wasn't the subjects being tested but it was being able to determine what each questions was asking. The veritas course help to teach to break down questions and determine what the true question being asked. By breaking questions down, the test became much simpilar and the Veritas course was invaluable in this regard. In addition, the professor was extremely knowledgeable and helpful and seemed to show true interest in how we did on the exam. I got the exact score I wanted and Veritas had a lot to do with that.

Bobby was an awesome teacher. His passion and expertise in demonstrating how to beat the GMAT was amazing. He also took the time to focus on "success in your MBA career" which was just as valuable as the GMAT training. Bobby Umar was definitely the difference in my GMAT success.

Thanks Bobby!

Even though my first score wasn't what I had hoped for, I am confident that working with him will improve it.

Given my dislike for standardized tests, Veritas prep was refreshing and a rewarding experience. The course itself was well structured and highlighted the key areas needed to excel in the GMAT.

But it would not have been possible if it wasn't for Bobby Umar, my instructor. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. His teaching style was engaging, interactive and conducive to learning. But above all his very human nature for the way he cared for his students was what I will never forget. I am grateful to have had the chance to meet and be taught by Bobby.

I would recommend this course above others for anyone looking to ace the GMAT!!!

640 to 730!

Before I enrolled in the Veritas class I took one of the practice GMATs on mba.com and scored 640. My goal was to break 700 on the test, so I thought I was in bad shape. After completing the Veritas (full 7 week) course, I consistently scored over 700 on all my practice tests and eventually scored 730 (49Q,40V) on the real test.

I would recommend the Veritas class because they really show you every type of problem you could possibly see on the real test. You'll go into the real test feeling very prepared and confident. They also offer many practice tests so you can fine-tune your timing. And on top of all that, they have great instructors (at least mine was) who are very willing to help out with problems and give test taking advice and strategies that you won't find in any books. My instructor (Matt Douglas) gave me tips on how to improve my timing and also gave me a study plan that helped a lot. Oh and buy the Official Guide, it's a great supplemental book.
