Manhattan GMAT was an excellent GMAT prep experience. The course combines comprehensive coverage of topics with pragmatic problem-solving strategies.

Grace was both an effective and engaging teacher who could make the most difficult topics both accessible and interesting.

For anyone who is looking for a targeted program that really works, I could not more highly recommend Manhattan GMAT.

Awesome prep course

Manhattan GMAT's books are amazing for self study even without the 9 weeks of instruction. Their teachers are the best- or at least mine certainly was. They do hold you to a high standard- there's a ton of homework to be completed for the course, but doing it all all but ensures a good score.

The only complaint is that the course starts off easy, and then about halfway through it kind of leaves you in the dust if you're not keeping on top of your work. It's also expensive. But if you've got time to do the work and money to spare, I doubt there's a better choice.

20 percentile point increase in score

I took the MGMAT course after taking one if its competitors classes. The results were strikingly different - after taking the MGMAT course my score increased 20 percentile points. This incremental jump in score aided in my admission to a top business school located in Chicago, IL.

The MGMAT curriculum in superior in approach, content, and required level of dedication asked of the students. If a student applies him or herself and completes the required work the MGMAT program will get the individual to his or her maximum ability level. The course doesn't teach tricks or traps; it requires a student to master the content and then teaches how to apply that knowledge to the exam. This is a superior test prep program.

My instructor was great. He maintained a level of enthusiasm through the long process which made is easier to stay on top of the subject content. I recommend seeking his class out if you are taking the course in Chicago.

Excellent Teacher and Preparation Materials

I was a little skeptical of all preparation courses at first. They all seem to be a little pricey and I thought I might be able to study on my own and get the same results. I went to the free trial MGMAT course and I didn't hesitate to sign up as soon as it was done.

Needless to say, the material on the GMAT is not the most exciting for all people, but Chris did a great job of making the class fun and I actually looked forward to attending. The 9-week course does a great job of laying out a framework to follow in order to help you prepare for the GMAT and it is hard to not reach your potential if you commit to doing the work. There is definitely a significant time commitment required to keep up with the course, but if you are serious about getting a great GMAT score, you are going to have to commit yourself one way or another.

The course supplements the GMAT Review books sold by the GMAC with several other books that walk you through solid methods for attacking every problem you will face on the test. The online labs and resources also are valuable resources to help with your test-taking strategy and planning.

There are many other courses out there and I am sure many of them are good, but you cannot go wrong with the Manhattan GMAT 9-week prep course. If you are in Chicago and have a change to take a class with Chris B., I highly recommend jumping on the opportunity.

Course was excellently structured. Instructors were regularly available to answer questions via email and in-person, and the online prep materials can't be beat. I have tried other prep materials, and Manhattan GMAT's are the best. They allow you to accurately track your progress as well as provide clear feedback on what needs to be worked on to improve your score. And benefits from the teachings are tangible - I improved from a 610 to 700. All and all a lot of great resources are at your disposable with Manhattan GMAT to improve your GMAT score - moreso than any other prep course out there.

I found MGMAT to be really exceptional. When I went to see Dave for private tutoring, I had already taken a Princeton Review course and tried using some Kaplan books for self-study. I found both the online and printed materials offered by MGMAT to be of excellent, if not far superior quality, to the others I had used to date. Dave, my tutor, was affable and patient. He identified some glaring gaps in my approach and helped me figure out a study plan that was effective and made sense. I have other friends who have used MGMAT and they have all had similarly positive experiences. MGMAT is definitely a high-end boutique when it comes to the prep centers out there however, I couldn't recommend them more highly.

Manhattan GMAT is the best. I like how they really teach you the material. They don't waste time teaching useless test strategies, they focus on the core concepts and allow you to spend time studying where you need it.

I needed help with the math section of the GMAT, and the Manhattan GMAT material was incredibly useful. I followed their recommended studying schedule and then after the course ended studied the areas I knew I needed the most help on. The study guides and practice tests alone is worth the price of the course.

My instructor was very helpful. It was great to hear from someone who had gone through the test recently - she shared great tips and gave us lots of advice.

By the time I finished studying I felt almost completely prepared. Thanks Manhattan GMAT!

Excellent GMAT Strategy Course

August 7, 2010

I began this 9-week prep course in April 2010 after reading several compelling reviews rating the effectiveness and quality of the course. I was a little skeptic to sign up for the course since my first practice tests were in the 80th percentile range. However, I found this course to be extremely beneficial in accurately gauging my strengths and weaknesses, and my individual tailored strategy on attacking the GMAT quantitative and verbal sections.

To begin, the professor teaching the course was extremely informative and helpful. He knew the material extremely well and was able to answer any question that I had proposed during or after class. He was able to point light at different strategies at solving problems and ultimately save me time in areas that I had struggled. Not only so, he was able to also improve my accuracy rate in questions I was getting right but also save me plenty of time. Besides being extremely knowledgeable, he was very willing to help his students in any way, whether it was by e-mail, phone, or in person.

Furthermore, the material provided by the Manhattan GMAT prep course was extremely detailed and yet easy enough for the student to tackle. I found the material to be extremely helpful in that the strategy course would focus on mastering all the fundamental topics before the students are asked to attack and complete the full length practice exams. The GMAT official guide also incorporated real and previous GMAT problems and I was able to fully discover the complexities and variations of the different types of problems used.

I would highly recommend Manhattan GMAT to any student or professional looking to master the components of the GMAT. The course is very well constructed in which you find time to adequately prepare for scoring high on the GMAT. I appreciated the course for the fact that it is individually tailored towards one personal performance and provides useful strategy for students who also want to improve their score who are scoring well. The small size of the classroom coupled with the great staff at Manhattan GMAT make this an amazing learning experience.

Manhattan GMAT was an excellent prep course, and Eric Caballero was an excellent instructor. I took this course in March of 2009 to prepare to take my GMAT that upcoming summer. I was more concerned with math portion of the test than the verbal. Eric was an easy to follow, personable, and helpful instructor who made class as interesting as a prep course has any right to be. He is always available to answer questions and is always ready to assist in any way he can.

The books that come with the course are also excellent. They teach you how to crack the code of GMAT questions quite well and provide tons of practice.

I was able to improve my score by 140 points with this course, and I highly recommend it to anyone who needs to prep for the GMAT.

Fantastic prep course that helped me crack 700

I needed a prep course that would keep me on track and give me enough rigor to study while I was in the middle of my junior year of undergrad. I'm generally pretty good at standardized tests but especially needed help on the math section, and on generally keeping up with a regimented study schedule. Manhattan GMAT was all that and more. My class size was super small and the quality of instruction highly attentive and specialized. Eric was a fantastic teacher - super bright, enthusiastic, engaging, funny and willing to go the extra mile. When I fell behind in coursework he was accommodating but still supportive, and he worked with me after the course was over to devise an individually customized studying plan for the final 3 weeks before my exam. Without Manhattan GMAT I would have never cracked a 700.

-The courses are well organized with a syllabus distributed during the first class

-The instructor kept the class on-schedule so that we never felt as if we were rushed to cover material

-There is a large amount of homework for each week. I would definitely recommend taking the time to complete the assigned homework each week to get the most out of the course

-The course also comes with access to Manhattan GMAT's robust online resources. The one drawback is that access to the online component expires within 3 months of having completed the course

The difference between an average school and my reach school - Manhattan GMAT

August 6, 2010

While I have this review labeled under private tutoring, I also invested in two courses and one math bootcamp provided by Manhattan GMAT ("MGMAT"). Below I will highly my opinion on various aspects of my experience.

The Materials: MGMAT's materials are incredible. They aren't incredible because they teach you a ton of "short-cuts" they are effective because they teach you material from the foundation up to the advanced skills necessary to earn a top score. Quantitative material is broken up into books seperated by topic. There are exceptional practice problems that were created by the master instructors at MGMAT who sat through the exam and identified (to the extent it's possible) how to formulate problems of similar difficulty levels as on the real exam. For the Verbal concepts there are also books broken out into topical area. In addition to these excellent resources there are the official guides that come along with the purchase of any course with MGMAT. These books are packed full of REAL questions that were once part of the live exams administered to MBA hopefuls on the GMAT. I have looked at other review materials and while many companies have 1 or 2 great aspects, MGMAT wholistically has the best materials.

The Instructors: The instructors are in one word - OUTSTANDING. They should be for the hoops they have to jump through just to teach at the company. Rigorous interviews and presentations must be made, hopeful instructors are thrown into classroom simulation before being hired and forced to answer tedious questions that mimic what students will be like. Only those that can remain composed and actually convey the material effectively are granted the opportunity to teach students.

My experience with the instructors was an absolute pleasure. Kara Thornton taught my first class and was patient when students of various levels asked questions that ranged the spectrum from intermediate to difficult. I was a student that had trouble with intermediate to mid-range quantitative problems and I never at any time felt like I did not belong. The instructors encouraged me and acted as if they were my biggest fan during the process. Problems in class are solved step by step and devoid of short-cuts where mistakes can be made.

Tutoring:
I dealt with Abby Pelcyger for my one on one tutoring. I cannot emphasize enough how tutoring made the difference for me. In the context of one on one tutoring Abby went over every practice exam and real exam I had taken (more than 10+ practice exams and 5 real GMAT exams) to understand my patterns, my weakenesses, and my strengths. Abby then build a custom plan tailored for my needs which were extremely weighty. At the time I had 3 weeks to prepare for the GMATs before Memorial Day weekend. I was on the waitlist at Cornell for 5 months already and new it would be my last chance to get over the hump.

Abby taught me time management strategies that helped me mentally to get over the pressure and guilt of skipping a problem too difficult for myself. My three weeks and 15+ hours spent with Abby were some of the best dollars I ever spent.

The only thing I would have done differently is I would have hired Abby and utilized private tutoring earlier in my process.

RESULTS: I took the GMAT once before becoming acclimated with MGMAT and 5 times afterwards. My score before MGMAT was 530, after the first course I jumped to a 610. There were a few hiccups on the next exams. After private tutoring I scored a 680 and was removed from the waitlist.

MGMAT helped me gain access to the school I wanted and changed my life forever. I am grateful for their team and highly commend their expertise to any prospective MBA applicant.

Excellent Test Preparation

All aspects of the course, including the in-class sessions, online question banks and video tutorials, and books are extremely thorough and well-organized. It was easy to understand the strategies and techniques presented. I was also able to customize my own study-schedule, based on feedback from practice tests to hone in on needed target areas.

The biggest asset of this course was my teacher, Grace. She has been teaching for years, and it definitely shows. She kept the class moving, gave clear explanations and instructions and had a wonderful sense of humor to keep the class engaged.

There are tons of online resources - you will not run out of practice questions or tests. You need to keep in mind that thorough preparation for the class will require hours of outside class time (at least 6 or 7 hours if you want to keep up).

This course gave me the materials I needed to pick up on content and the in class strategy sessions necessary to master every question type. Both teachers that I experienced were fun, knowledgeable and professional. Although the course was expensive, it was not overly so compared to similar courses and the amount of material you have access to makes the price worth it. Based on conversations with friends and other fellow GMAT-takers, Manhattan GMAT's materials and teachers are far superior to other test prep companies. My teacher, Grace, was very approachable and taught at a comfortable pace, considering the complexity of the material. She somehow kept me engaged and entertained through each class, even if my brain hurt every time I left. The classrooms were clean and easily accessible from Midtown. If the timing works, I recommend the winter session, in which you have a week off over the holidays to catch up on the material.

Manhattan GMAT Score: A+

In reviewing all test prep sites as well as attending a few free seminars hosted by GMAT preparation test companies, I decided to enroll in Manhattan GMAT. Compared to the other companies that considered, Manhattan GMAT instructors possess a higher level of expertise and the capability to educate. Additionally, the materials provided by Manhattan GMAT, the online assistance, and the practice tests enable a student to really customize a strategy to his/her weak areas.
Throughout the course, all of the instructors, ranging from Abby, my main MGMAT instructor in Philadelphia, to those with whom I interacted during homework help hours throughout the week were phenomenal. MGMAT?s policy that an instructor be in the 99 percentile combined with the extensive training undergone by each instructor seems to really ensure that their educators are not only intelligent but well versed in the material. Even in a classroom of 15, I felt the approach was individualized and that Abby genuinely went out of her went to answer all questions, even if that meant that she stayed after class with one or two students.
Beyond the classroom experience, MGMAT provides incredible test prep books and insight on strategy. The CAT tests knock out the other companies by miles. The reports that are generated are granular in detail and in effect, it is easier for you to assess your areas of difficulty and where you should focus your energy. In the event that you should have questions on the homework outside of the classroom, 30 minutes of online help with an instructor are also at your disposal each week.
While that I have not yet taken the exam, I am most certainly more confident after taking the MGMAT course.

650 to 760 with Manhattan GMAT

August 6, 2010

  • GMAT ScoresBefore: 650 After: 760

I took the 9 week Manhattan GMAT prep course and was incredibly happy with the results. I took the course in Chelsea, NYC and studied with Dave Malloy. Dave was an exceptional teacher. He had this amazing energy and was always very helpful when students asked questions. I know that I asked him some pretty tough questions and he was always able to quickly respond. I appreciated the way he stayed current on "gmat events" and would draw our attention to gmat rule changes - especially in the area of sentence correction. He was great at balancing the different levels in our class and trying to help us all grow - no matter how well-prepared we were at that moment. In addition, we would always talk about alternative ways to solve a problem (including strategic guessing) to really understand the problem - not just memorize one potential solution.

I also had an amazing tutor - Horacio Quiroga. would ask some pretty off-the-wall questions and Horacio was always willing to talk through difficult issues and help me. There were times when we would finish tutoring and have a couple of minutes to spare - he was always willing to "wing it" and do an extra problem that I was struggling with; this ability to "wing it" really amazing me. He sent a supplemental list of problems which really helped my knowledge of ratios and he would always target explanations to the specific questions (rather than just going through problems in a standard way). In addition, we would often go over the problem in a number of different ways so I could feel more comfortable with them.

Overall, a great course. The course materials were helpful - way better than the Princeton Review books I had bought originally. The only book I thought was (somewhat) lacking was the geometry book (the number properties and sentence correction are the best in my opinion). In addition, some of their practice test questions are much more involved than one would expect to see on the actual GMAT.

Barring these two caveats, it is a great program and really helped me increase my score!
