I have nothing but extremely positive things to say about my experience with Manhattan GMAT. I took the evening 9 week prep class from 6-9 on Wall Street the summer between my junior and senior years of college. My teacher, Jon Schneider, did a great job of explaining each topic in Manhattan GMAT's comprehensive yet concise curriculum. After finishing the class, I continued to prepare for the exam back at school with Manhattan GMAT's online supplementary material. There is a wealth of resources on the website that students have access to.

Overall, I could not be happier with my selection of Manhattan GMAT. I highly reccomend it to anyone who plans to take the GMATs and is serious about doing well.

i realy liked it especially the materials they give you, like thebooks and outlines are fantastic. i was trying to study for GMAT by myself and in bookstore it was only severa books and after reading one book you suppose to know how to answer complicatedGmat questions, however Manhattan GMAT gives you about 15 books, which in detail explain everything you need to know with a tons of sample questions. before i took the course i was terrified to take GMAt but now i am ready for it. in addtion, class itself helps you to get on track with the things you need to know for GMAT; but be prepared they will give you so much to study; however it will all pay off!!!

MGMAT - The Self Guided Study Prep

October 22, 2010

When I first started preparing for the GMATs, I had no direction and no method. I was just borrowing GMAT prep books from the library, and going through the problems without a lot of thought on strategy and timing.
After doing this for about 3 weeks, I decided to take a GMAT practice exam. I thought I was ready to see the actual test. Well, let me tell you--that practice exam was not pretty. Thank goodness I was able to take it in the confines of my own home, where my shame was not publicly known. Fine, I'll share the score (only to show you how far MGMAT took me, not so that you can ridicule me)--a 540.

That's when I realized I need to have a study strategy. I didn't have the time nor the budget to enroll in a full course, so I did research on all the test-prep companies' self study kits. I ultimately decided on the MGMAT one because it looked extremely comprehensive, and offered a lot of things I was looking for. Some of my favorite things in the self-guided prep:

1) the syllabus. it was organized in a way that made sense, and was very clear in the assignments. As long as you have self-discipline, this class can work for you.

2) the OG tracker. an excel spreadsheet that allowed you to track all of your OG answers and the time it took you to finish the problem. fantastic tool, because it analyzed your responses and i was able to see all the areas i was really slow and inaccurate in and vice versa. Loved this!

3) the Online Labs. While the Self Guided Study Prep does NOT include class recordings, it does have a series of 9 online labs for students to access. So good! These labs enhance all the stuff you're learning in the books, and also cover a lot of test taking strategy. My favorites were the Essay writing one and the timing strategy one.

After I finished the Self Guided curriculum, I signed up for the GMATs.
I'm pretty happy with my final score (700 / 6 AWA), and thank the MGMAT materials for getting me there.

As long as you have plenty of self-discipline (cause you'll need it), then this class is for you.

The course was taught in such a way that we were always learning a new aspect of the GMAT with each practice question. Stacey stressed the point of studying smarter, with specific questions, so as to learn the strategies taught at Manhattan GMAT. I thought the work done in class was great, and the way the group discussed their answers afterward was extremely beneficial.

The study materials were also excellent, there are a ton of resources that if properly used, are the best way to improve on the GMAT.

comprehensive online option, reliable results but def based on your work input

- online learning: I've always been apprehensive about online courses, feeling that I'd get the most bang for my buck if I was physically in a classroom. b/c the LA region is so spread out, really appreciated being able to enroll into an online program with m-gmat, and if all progs had the resources and technology m-gmat gave/used, I wouldn't hesitate to sign up for online learning.

- comprehensive resources: I felt that the practice m-gmat CAT exams were on par with level of difficulty of the actual exam, so that was excellent preparation. I chose to use the detailed study organizer excel, so each day had scheduled reading/hw that I could choose to stay on top of. I hardly used / did not use the stopwatch that was mailed to us or the online office hours. Thought the office hours (30 min per session) were short; I used it once and barely got through 1 problem and wasn't able to absorb the strategy behind solving the problem either. unfortunately, unable to rollover office hours - a 1 hr session may have been more helpful. I actually found the forum for a specific question problem more useful.
I appreciated the availability of basic and advanced material (e.g. foundations of math courses, challenge problem banks), though I didn't have the chance to use the latter at all - depending on how soon your actual gmat is scheduled after the end of the 9-week course, you could work additional advanced work in.

- effective instructors: they may or may not be your new best friend, but they prove to be effective and since there are 2 for each course, easily accessible for follow-up questions.

- website/student center/student services: student services personnel always quickly got my questions, issues and would be able to quickly resolve them. they're reachable as easily by phone or email. the website/student center may not be the most aesthetic, but it's practical, easy to navigate, and gets the job done.

overall, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend m-gmat to anyone planning to take the gmat. it is definitely structured to give you results based on the time/effort you put in.

Manhattan GMAT's 9-week prep course was a great experience. They provide all of the necessary study tools as well as an easy to follow structure. Each class was well rehearsed and our great instructor, Eric, did a great job tailoring the classroom portion of the class to our specific needs.

The practice tests were very helpful to show the progression of my scores and were also very accurate as I ended up with a 700 on the actual gmat and was right around 690 on my latter practice tests.

I would highly recommend not only the Manhattan GMAT class, but also Eric Caballero specifically as a great teacher!

Manhattan GMAT: The Best GMAT Prep There Is!

October 6, 2010
  • Teacher: Emily Sledge and Dmitri Farber
  • Recommended forVerbal: Yes  Math: Yes

With top business schools being so competitive, I wanted to score 700+ on the GMAT to maximize the strength of my candidacy. Manhattan GMAT was the best decision I made in the GMAT process and working with them boosted my score tremendously to 720 on my first attempt.

I compared every GMAT prep company by speaking with former students and reading reviews. Manhattan GMAT is by far the best investment and strongest prep program based on:

1. Superior Instructors
2. Superior Cirriculum and Test Strategies
3. Use of actual Official Guide (OG) books

No matter what company you go with, the quality of your course comes down to the quality of YOUR INSTRUCTOR(S). After speaking with students of other test prep companies, it was clear I had the best available. Manhattan GMAT requires all their instructors to score in the 99th percentile on the test. There's a HUGE difference between being a good test taker and being able to teach for the test though. My instructors were more than really bright people, they were excellent communicators and fantastic teachers. It turns out Manhattan GMAT requires their instructors to have previous teaching experience before ever setting foot in a Manhattan GMAT classroom, so they're tremendously more effective than people without experience at other companies. To be more specific, my instructors would teach multiple strategies to tackle each problem. This way students could find the approach that worked best for them and how their mind works, which is much better than being forced to use a single strategy you may or may not understand. Emily and Dmitri did an excellent job of keeping slower students up to speed while moving quickly enough for more advanced students. The effectiveness of my teachers wasn't an anomaly either. Included in your course, you receive optional office hours each week and can receive one-on-one instruction and help with homework problems. Each time I signed up for office hours I had a different instructor, and they were each equally effective in answering my questions.

Manhattan GMAT employs superior test taking strategies that many other companies lack. I already discussed how the cirriculum teaches students multiple ways to tackle a problem. Beyond that, you learn effective strategies for time management, how to properly choose problems to make an educated guess on, and which topics to focus your energy on to maximize your score in the limited amount of time you have to study. Students I spoke with at a number of other companies didn't learn any of this. At Manhattan GMAT its standard, and these things really make a difference if you're trying to score 700+.

Finally, Manhattan GMAT's use of the actual OG books is really helpful because it allows you to gauge the difficulty of questions you're answering based on their position in the book. While other companies use OG problems, they're scattered throughout the company's own materials so you don't know the difficulty level of the question.

Its pretty clear that I'm tremendously happy with my investment and results from Manhattan GMAT. The course was completely worth it, and if you want to maximize you're score, I highly recommend the company.

indispensable

In my MBA applications, I had a focus on my GMAT score: I got 700 and I entered the only school I applied for.

As English is not my first langage and I left school years ago, I was nervous about the goal of 700 or above that I had put on my shoulder.

Actually I registered to two preps: Manathan GMAT and Knewton, as I was too nervous.

Manathan GMAT has an amazing material with their books: outstanding; it is a lot of work to go through all of them and to retain anything but it is very useful.

I liked the class too as you are given tricks: there you are learning the GMAT langage; You learn to recognize how it works and what is the thinking pattern, why you are making so many errors: I enjoyed this part immensely and I saved a lot of study time.

The classes has brought me a lot. It is there that I understood what it is all about and I also gained confidence with my level of English: confidence is very important for this exam which is a psychological challenge more than anything else.

The teacher mastered the subject and was dedicated to the class: I have saved a lot of time learning from her. I just regretted that we didn't make more difficult problems (level above 700) but I understood that if you don't master the basis you are loosing your time and money: you have to build your strength one step at a time.

Compared to Knewton, the registered session on Internet are not good to my mind: it is not lively and I got bored after 10 minutes. That I didn't like and that's a minus for the prep. But a friend thought that Veritas was as horrible or more for the registered session. So I am guessing that there Manathan is average, where Knewton has specialised in having lively recordings.

Knewton also gives a lot of tricks: my feeling is that with Manathan - regular session - you can go to 700 but it will be hard to go over, while Knewton seems to give you the material to go over but if you don't assimilate the base properly, you won't reach 700 even, so for that I prefer Manathan GMAT: it is serious and you can go step by step, no matter what is your level at the beginning.

As a non native English speaking I definitly enjoyed Manathan GMAT as it is easy to follow.

I would have like to have a prep specifically to go over the 700: I think it is not that difficult: it was worth for me working on it with Manathan GMAT; I don't think I would have managed by myself and I would have got discouraged, not understanding why I made so many errors, especially on the verbal but also on the math part.

I am thankful for that prep: I am now where I wanted to go.

I entered the Manhattan Online course with basically no foundation or previous study. I have a material engineering degree from a major state university, but my math and verbal skills were both rusty. I was confident in my math skills, but I knew verbal was going to be a major challenge. The Manhattan course was the most useful for me because I simply could not study on my own. It takes a lot of time and effort to get to the 700+ level, and I was not going to be able to do it on my own. The course provided all the material and online content necessary, but most importantly it provided me with a schedule. The teachers of the course held students accountable for knowing the information, and that was the ultimate motivation for me.

The actual class structure was far superior than I was expecting. The software utilized by the program was very user friendly and allowed classroom interaction. The teachers called on students regularly and asked for volunteers to speak over the microphone. I was extremely impressed with the class immersion from an online class. As for the teachers, I could not have asked for a better pair. Both guys had scored in the 790-800 range multiple times and could answer any question you had. JR in particular was outstanding. I strongly recommend taking his class if you have the option.

As for the actual content of the course, I would say they provide a fully comprehensive set of skills to succeed. My initial practice exam came in at a 600 and by the time I was ready to take the actual exam, I was regularly scoring in the 690-740 range. Although I definitely left some points on the table and was slightly disappointed with a 700, I reached my goal and am moving on to the applications.

My only criticism of the course was the advanced content of the Manhattan books were not covered in the course. This is a very small portion of the subject matter, but for anyone scoring in the 700+ range, these skills are essential. I put in extra 5 weeks of intense studying after the course to take it to the next level. I would have liked the teachers to encourage you to cover this material during the course, but I realize everyone is not at the same level.

All in all, I have zero regrets after taking the course. The materials and support provided are priceless. If I have to give one peice of advice that I did not take myself, USE THE OFFICE HOURS! You will wish you did when you are having trouble with absolute values later.

At first, I was a little skeptical about my ability to learn and prepare with an the online course format, but this option was the most convenient for me. The Illuminate technology used by Manhattan GMAT is a great tool for replicating an effective classroom environment. The instructors are well trained and helpful. What's more, they are invested in your success. By following the recommended study plan (readings, problem sets, tutorials, etc.), you will be very adequately prepared to do well on the test.

I am very happy with ManhattanGMAT and have already recommended it to several friends.

Initially, I was not sure whether I needed an online live course or their self-learning tutorial with recorded classes. The customer care was really helpful and explained me the difference. I was also told that I can upgrade it anytime by just paying the difference. Ultimately, I joined their 9-session live online course and I am really glad that I did!

JR and Mike both were great instructors and the class was really interactive. They know the material inside out and were always able to clarify all the doubts.

The MGMAT material is definitely the best in the market. I cannot emphasis more on this. I specifically loved their Sentence Correction book. If you are looking for increasing your verbal score, read this book cover to cover atleast twice!

The best part is that they make you follow OG problems (this may sound alright - but, I find this approach way better than using some third party practice material when real GMAT problems are available!). All their online tests are also very close to the real GMAT!

All in all, two thumbs up!

Last June, I took the GMAT and scored above 700. No way would this have been possible had I not gone through ManhattanGMAT's prep course. While the excellent review books are the core of the program, I cannot overemphasize the importance of having great teachers. Emily Sledge was my lead instructor. She demonstrated an impressive command of the material and an ability to make even the most intimidating concepts ?friendly? and ?approachable.? Watching her tackle the toughest problems is similar to seeing how a magic trick is performed. The methods and logic that she uses to arrive at a solution are methodical and easy to follow. Amidst all the wizardry she was performing, Emily managed to establish great rapport and a truly human connection with her students. This instilled in us the necessary confidence that we could answer the test as skillfully as she did. Without reservation, I recommend her and this prep course to anyone who wants to score as well as he potentially can.

I studied on my own first in an attempt to avoid paying for a class (they're not cheap) but improved my score by 90 points after the course.

I think you get the most out of the course if you put in the time during the course and do the homework. Manhattan GMAT offers a lot of additional study tools, but it's your prerogative to take advantage of them (free weekly one on one tutor session online, simulated practice tests, etc).

My instructor was Erica Lee and she was wonderful. I've had great professors and teachers and I put Erica on par with the best teachers that I've had. She was super responsive and made class fun -- if you can imagine that preparing for the GMATs can be fun. She definitely gives what could otherwise be dry material energy. I also stayed in touch with her between the time that I finished the course and took the test, and touched base with her after the test. She was great.

The Manhattan GMAT books themselves are a worthwhile investment. They explain things so thoroughly, it's like reading beginner text books from middle school (in a good way). If you ever come across something you don't understand the book is a great reference.

I initially took the gmat after about a month of studying. I got a 630, and was initially content with the score. I applied to a couple schools, but was rejecting from all of them. Two years lapsed and I decided to take the Gmat again, but this time with the goal of getting above a 680. I did a great deal of research regarding what the best program would be. After looking into all of the programs, i decided on Manhattan GMAT. I am very glad I made my decision. Emily was incredible, and the online study dynamic was exactly what I was looking for. If you follow the program the way it is intended, I can almost guarantee an improvement in your score. The material was excellent, and the teaching methods were great. Above all, I benefited greatly from the practice exams that Manhattan GMAT provided. Having taken all of the practice exams a number of times, I was able to specifically pinpoint the areas I had mastered, as well as the areas I still needed work on. I took the GMAT a week after finishing the course. I managed to boost my score from a 630 to a 730 :).

In any case, I do not typically write reviews, but felt that I needed to write this review for the benefit of future GMAT examinees. You cannot go wrong with the Manhattan GMAT.

I would have to agree with many of the reviewers - this course was great! Not only was the instructor and staff personable and knowlegable, they made my overall experience fun. I recommend taking a weekend course and really trying to make every class to maximize your ability to perform well come test day. Although I did end up taking the test, several externalities weighed me down on test day and I never ended up releasing my score =/ But that in no way was attributable to Manhattan GMAT!

I am retaking the test this fall and plan to re-engage with Manhattan GMAT and my previous instructor in the next couple weeks.

My score on the GMAT was 700 after a the two-month ManhattanGMAT course without any prior preparation whatsoever! Not only did I got the score I was shooting for, got my money's worth, but also improved my math and English grammar skills.

Manhattan GMAT is definitely the most effective course out there.

I've read through the review books and materials of basically every single possible prep company out there. The extensive verbal and quant strategy guides that MGMAT uses was really a critical piece to my preparation. The content covered in the guides beats all other prep materials out there. After taking the course I really felt as prepared as I possibly could be.

My instructors were excellent and very well-qualified to teach the course. They were very attentive and always answered my questions and emails promptly. Everything that we discussed in class were not just a repeat of the strategy guides but in fact went beyond what was in the books.

Thorough preparation. Best and smartest material prep in the market. Professional, attentive instructions.

great prep experience and materials

I came into the course not really knowing much about the GMAT. The most I knew was that it was computer-adaptive, whatever that meant.

Since the first class, Gregg quickly got the class up to speed on the ins and outs of the exam--from getting the class familiar with both the content of the exam and the scoring mechanism to providing very good study tips for the exam.

Overall, Gregg had a great sense of humor and made the class enjoyable. By D-day, I felt very much at ease with the test. He delivered material in a way that made me remember key tips. I'll still remember the following:
- Breathe
- Read small, 'Rite big, and Reread the question
- Put things on flash cards
- Keep track of your errors, especially the stupid ones

In addition to the superb teaching, Manhattan GMAT comes with 6 great CAT exams. The best part about this, for me, was that we could book test appointments at the Manhattan GMAT test center to take tests in simulated environments. This was key for me, as I am prone to getting derailed by various distractions. By the end of the course, I was--dare I say--not too stressed about the test. I became consistent in my GMAT performance, and on d-day, I felt prepared enough to go in to the test center with a smile.

The test is hard--no doubt, there were moments during the actual exam when I thought I was crashing and burning. But because of the tremendous amount of preparation and practice that Manhattan GMAT afforded me, I was able to power through some of the tougher moments during the test.
