Magoosh is all you need for the GMAT

I found Magoosh to be exceptionally effective at preparing me for the GMAT. I can't recommend it highly enough. The verbal questions posed by Magoosh were even more difficult than those on the actual GMAT, which led me to be fully prepared. I ultimately scored a 44 on verbal as a result( I am not a native English speaker). I found the quant lessons to be extremely effective and easily understandable, before magoosh my quant was in a range of 30-37. After taking the lessons, I ended up scoring 49 in quant. Magoosh also provides a pool of practice questions. About 725 questions for quant and 557 questions for verbal, it also has 2 mock tests which are decent enough. Every question has text and video explanations as well, I ended up scoring 760. For anyone intent on taking the GMAT, look no further than Magoosh and the practice GMAT tests offered by GMAC. These two products provide everything you need to get an excellent score.

The compass to 700 and beyond

Magoosh is an excellent resource that I could recommend to anyone preparing to take or retake the GMAT. Their bank of questions covers a large range of skills and strategies you will need to learn and master in order to ace this test. Each question comes with a video that explains how to work through the problem and what mistakes could trip you up on test day if you don't know to look for them. There is also a variety of other videos that cover various quantitative and verbal topics you'll need to know for the GMAT. Put in the work, and these videos will both fill the gaps in your knowledge and enrich your understanding of things you already had a grasp on. If you work better following a strict plan, Magoosh has 4 different study plans that you can choose between that offer a structured and varied path toward the GMAT. But if you work better forging your own path, Magoosh's hundreds of practice questions of varying difficulty will regularly give indicators of where your weaknesses are, and how you can improve. Whether as a map or as a compass, if you can put in the work, Magoosh can guide you towards scores higher than you might think you're capable of.

Most comprehensive and worth it GMAT prep course

December 29, 2021
  • Teacher: Magoosh

  • GMAT ScoresBefore: 730 After: 770

There's a lot of things I loved about Magoosh: 1. The explanation videos are really detailed and step-by-step which allows students to learn the logic behind an answer choice, rather than to plainly memorize rules or formulas. This helped me solidify my understanding of core quant and sentence correction concepts, in a manner I had never learnt before. 2. The repository of questions is plenty - both for quant and verbal (but especially quant). The questions not only cover every individual topic important for GMAT, but also cover multiple topics in a single question which test your cross-application skills for concepts (very important if you are aiming above 700). Felt the 'Very Hard' difficulty questions helped me a great deal to improve my score. 3. Finally, even during practice sessions Magoosh has an 'adaptive' mode which simulates actual test taking. The more correct questions you answer, the harder the next question becomes (just like the test). One need not do a full test to experience this 'adaptive' mode, can be simulated for ad-hoc practice questions too. Overall, really loved the depth and breadth of materials which surprisingly comes at one of the lowest prices in the market!

Magoosh Self Study - WORTH IT

I opted to do the Magoosh GMAT Premium 12 month subscription. I coupled this with their Advanced 12 week study program. This included purchasing the Official Guide books as well as a book from Manhattan GMAT Prep. Working through the guide step by step exposed me to thousands of questions during the 3 months of studying. Additionally, the Magoosh lesson videos were informative and easily digested. I have been out of college for 5 years and have not taken the GMAT before. Rigorously sticking to the study guide timeline, as well as the lessons and questions available on the Magoosh self-study plan enabled me to score a 750 on my first attempt. Overall, I would highly recommend those two resources!

I used Magoosh for about 3 months of self-study and ended up with a 740 (Q48, V42). Magoosh has a very healthy question bank with excellent answer explanations, although I did find the math questions quite a bit more challenging than they were on the real test. I also found Magoosh's scoring algorithm to be rather tough; my Magoosh scores were about 80 points lower than my Official GMAT practice test scores, and the Official scores I got were very close to my real one. Overall though, Magoosh is an excellent option for those who looking to study on their own.

Great learning experience and value for money!

June 29, 2021

The last time I had to study for any exam was 2008, and so the idea of taking the GMAT after 13 years of being out of touch with serious studying was a bit disconcerting for me. I started looking for prep courses online and found many with good reviews on various forums (choices, choices!). To be honest, I wasn't sure about which course should I consider, but Magoosh's price point made it quite attractive from the beginning. Too attractive perhaps to rush in, and so I decided to give it a try (7 day trial), along with one other online course of similar sorts. The first thing that caught my attention was simplicity of Magoosh's user interface, but what actually sold me on were the lessons by Mike McGarry, that I found crisp and very well organized. I had around 12 weeks for the preparation, during which I had planned to take the 6 official GMAT Prep tests and 2 Magoosh prep tests on the weekends. My first official GMAT prep test score was 690, and the first Magoosh prep test score was 650, both of which I took within 3 weeks of starting the preparation. In addition to Magoosh's question bank, which I attempted 100%, I also used GMAT OG 2019, however, I was able to go through around 60% of the OG questions only. One feature which I really liked in Magoosh was ability to customize practice sessions, which lets one filter the question by section, topic and difficulty level, and also lets one to practice with time constraint, a feature which is very helpful to analyze and improve one's pace (quite important for GMAT prep, as I realized later during the practice tests). I also liked the blogs, few of which (including the ones related to study plan and managing exam stress) I found quite helpful. These blogs are accessible without an account as well (to my best knowledge!). I also found Magoosh's support team very responsive. While Magoosh provides great value for money, it is not perfect (IMHO). The question bank is quite exhaustive, but the questions sometimes seem to be tougher (especially Quant) than that in the GMAT OG. The custom practice session should have Pause and Exit options. Also, even though there is an IR practice section, which is useful, the interface and the feel is not quite same as what comes in the actual GMAT (or Official GMAT prep tests): I think it is important to have a similar interface, as pacing and the way one should approach an IR question is quite important. The AWA practice feature is non-existent: even though one could practice AWA using a simple notepad app on the computer and a 30 min timer on mobile (as I did), I don't think it is terribly difficult to add an AWA practice feature within Magoosh (it doesn't have to mark it, just a text editor with timer, a submit button, and basic stats like word count etc. for later review by the student). All in all, it has been a great experience preparing for GMAT with Magoosh, and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a self-paced course with excellent value for money.

The first time I took the GMAT, I scored a 780 with the help of Magoosh. I do not think I could have scored as well without Magoosh. Magoosh's platform is absolutely amazing. It offers 24/7 access to a deep bank of test questions customizable by question type, skill set, and difficulty level. The best feature of the platform is the detailed video and text explanations offered for EVERY single question. The explanations are SO helpful; they walk you through the mindset of a test-taker and actually prepare you to solve problems efficiently. The platform also contains comprehensive short lecture videos that are especially helpful for the Quant section and Sentence Correction questions in the Verbal section. These videos are extremely helpful in reviewing / learning important concepts. In summary, the best way to prepare for the GMAT is to do high-quality reps, and Magoosh's platform offers just that!

Helpful study schedule to keep you focused

July 23, 2020

  • GMAT ScoresBefore: N/A After: 770

For me, the study schedules (1-month or 3-month options are available for free) on Magoosh's blog were the most helpful tools for my preparation. These study schedules kept me accountable to continue learning while working full-time, and provided a clear path to follow. The schedule I used (3-month advanced) assigned many materials in addition to the core, Magoosh premium subscription, such as: the Official Guide for GMAT Review, 10-volume Manhattan GMAT series, Nova's GMAT prep course. However, I personally only used a Magoosh premium subscription and the Official Guide, as I felt that those two alone were more than adequate given my limited daily study availability. For the first ~6 weeks of the 3-month study period schedule, the study schedule assigned daily video lessons (on the Magoosh premium product) as well as recommendations for practice problems to do. Sometimes, the videos alone could take 2+ hours to get through on a given day, but I felt that the structured approach helped me to systematically prepare for the GMAT through intentional, guided preparation (as opposed to just busting through a bunch of practice problems). I found it particularly helpful to study a topic, via Magoosh videos, and then filter down a problem-set to that specific type of problems within the Magoosh product or the Official Guide (e.g., only integer properties DS problems). This approach helped me to internalize the principles discussed in the video lessons and to practice and re-practice until I felt a degree of confidence. In general, however, I do think that many of the Magoosh quant problems are a bit more challenging than the questions on the actual test (and in the Official Guide). Further, the "practice exam" that Magoosh offers is not representative of the real GMAT experience at all (in my experience); it was far too difficult (a majority of the questions were categorized as "Very Hard," which is not true to the real exam) and gave me a score that was far below my actual performance. Now, I recognize that the score discrepancy could be attributed to a variety of other factors as well, but my general takeaway is that the Magoosh's practice exam was overly complex. All that in mind, the quality of questions is much higher in the Official Guide, and I would recommend that people not get too caught up on any one obscure question that Magoosh throws out. True, a highly obscure topic could show up on the real exam, but it's much more likely that the GMAT questions will focus on the application of core principles. Additionally, for practice tests, the Official GMAT Practice Tests are far more accurate than anything else on Magoosh (or other practice tests available that I saw) - taking more practice tests does not make you more prepared for the exam, necessarily, so I would recommend focusing on the tests that actually provide insight into what you can expect on the exam. Looking back at the Magoosh product, one final point is that the AWA instruction is not very robust, in my opinion. The premium product has a few video explanations, and an example essay on the blog, but I did not find the explanations to be exceptionally useful. In sum, I think Magoosh does a good job, and it was certainly helpful for me, especially for the relatively low price. Magoosh provided the tools I needed to prepare for the exam, and the study schedule to keep me on track. I would recommend it to others as a helpful, albeit imperfect, tool.

There are better resources than Magoosh

My experience with Magoosh was just ok. While some of the videos do a fine job of explaining concepts, the practice questions themselves are unrealistic and don't quite resemble the types of questions and thinking tested on the GMAT. For verbal, I recommend sticking to official sources and LSAT questions. There wasn't anything particularly wrong with the verbal content, but it didn't really push my level of understanding. For quant, many of the questions are significantly more computation heavy than what one encounters on the actual exam, and don't train the right mental muscles. I used Magoosh for my first attempt on the exam, and switched to TTP for my second. I had much better results and understanding with TTP.

When I decided to pursue an MBA program I had around 1 month in order to study for the GMAT in order to be able to get my applications in for the fall semester. I found Magoosh online and they offered study materials at a reasonable price. I went through their practice questions and found which areas I needed to improve on. I then used their video lessons to improve in these areas and went back to the practice questions to test those skills. I used Magoosh for both Quant and Verbal but spent more time on Quant as my Verbal was already pretty solid. I could see the improvements I was making over the course of the month and went it came to the GMAT I was able to achieve my target score of 700.

Amazing GMAT Prep!!!

I started working for the GMAT around mid-January and was planning on taking it around March. As such, I only had about 1.5 months to study and chose to use the 1-month planner in their blog. Magoosh was especially helpful to me to get started with the GMAT preparation, understand what the exam is about, refresh math knowledge (especially when it comes to geometry and counting techniques), and just have some type of guidance and structure as to how much and what to study. It was a lot of intense work per day, but it was very worth it. Due to the current situation, I had to postpone my exam and do the GMAT Online later on at the end of April. Given that I had already finished my entire study plan in a month, I was able to continue working on the GMAT by doing about 30 exercises a day in Verbal or Math from their "Practice" section to stay on track and maintain my math fitness. Definitely a great way to work towards this exam, can only recommend it!

Magoosh's verbal questions were very similar and its math questions were more difficult than the official GMAT. Going through all the practice problems helped me out a lot! I chose to fast-track my studies using Magoosh, starting serious revision in January 2020 and I took the exam on the 21st February. I previously had been very happy to condemn myself as being "bad at maths" but found both the Quant course and question explanation videos in particular to be extremely well thought out and explained. I finished with a well balanced grade of 640, which I was really happy with after two months of studying. I'm certain I could have increased with further studies but at the moment this is sufficient for me to enter my chosen schools. I would certainly recommend this course to anyone looking to start from scratch and give the GMAT a go.
