I took one of the Fall courses in San Francisco under Ron, and have nothing but good things to say about the experience.

I'm a recent Econ and Chem graduate from UNC, so I wasn't really in need of a huge amount of Quant review. However, the couple of sections I wasn't entirely sure on, Ron did a great job of reviewing. Combinations and Permutations were killing me at the beginning of the class, but I had them down cold after the session focused on them.

He must have done a great job with me on the Verbal as well because I ended up with a higher percentile on that section than the Quant.

I missed a couple classes due to business trips, but Ron did a great job covering my questions on what I missed.

MGMAT helped me beat the GMAT...I highly recommend it

I recently completed the 9 session Manhattan GMAT course, then got a great score on the GMAT. While I'm a good test taker to begin with, MGMAT was definitely the difference between a decent score and an amazing score. It provided me with both the strategy and confidence to see through all the GMAT's tricks.

The course in general is structured well...some Math and Verbal each day, with homework done throughout the week that prepares you for each class. The books are great and I know people that have used just the books, but having the personal touch each weekend really adds a lot.

The course is kind of like a spin class...you can go through the motions, or you can really hammer it out and make the most of it. I did all the homework and recommend others do too. Then in the two weeks before the test, you already know your deficiencies and you can just work to address them.

I can't speak for all professors but I can speak for mine--she was extremely knowledgeable and personable, and I looked forward to going to class. So between the well-constructed curriculum and the personal attention you get (very small class size, mine was 7 or so), MGMAT is totally worth it.

MGMAT Students are Well Prepared to Face the GMAT!

ManhattanGMAT had an integral role in my success with the GMAT. I took the 9 week online class and then studied for about a month and a half on my own using their study materials. The online classes were a good warmup and an introduction to all the important bits of information regarding the content and style of the test itself. They also helped me develop a good attitude towards the test, encouraging me to skip questions once I reached 2 mins or so and such. More importantly, the study materials provided by the MGMAT are incomparable. They are probably the best in the industry in terms of review, content, and challenging problems; the problems they assign really help you focus on the loopholes and challenging style of the GMAT. I read the study guides they provide thoroughly (the division between the study guides is so natural that it helps the student). Also, the CAT exams they provide are amazing albeit slightly more challenging, but that's good in my opinion as I'd rather be better prepared and pleasantly surprised on the actual exam day. I would definitely, definitely, definitely recommend ManhattanGMAT as the GMAT preparatory course to take in your pursuit for a good score.

Great Course and Prep Materials, Highly Recommended

February 17, 2011

This course is highly recommended to anyone preparing for the GMAT.

In May 2010, I decided to start pursuing an MBA, so naturally I began looking at GMAT prep courses. After reading several reviews and discussing with friends, I settled on MGMAT because of the stellar reviews. Overall, I was not disappointed.

The materials are solid for the most part. The quant guides are a must-have for anyone who is not naturally-gifted at math. These were a godsend, and actually taught me new math concepts that I never learned in high school. The only guide I thought lacked clarity was Word Translations. It seems to briefly skim over very important and, often, confusing concepts such as Work/Rate, Overlapping Sets, and Combinatorics. I had to go to outside materials to master these concepts. Otherwise, the quant guides were solid.

The verbal guides are pretty decent as well. The Sentence Correction guide will be your best friend during prep. I probably read through it six or seven times, and referred to my notes countless more times. However, I felt the guide was complex for people without a formal grammar education. I used the PowerScore SC Bible to "warm up". After I went through PowerScore, which described concepts in simple terms, my understanding of topics in the MGMAT SC guide went up significantly. These two books are a powerful duo.

I didn't really make much use of the CR guide. I pretty much used PowerScore CR Bible from the get-go based on reviews.

The RC guide is a nice bonus, but the only way to master RC, in my opinion, is to practice. RC is the hardest to prep for unless you are a reader.

The course itself was great. The teacher obviously knew his stuff and even taught a few tricks that are not covered in the guides. He is reachable by email and typically stay after class to cover a few advanced problems or answer questions. He was patient with students and paced the class well.

I think the biggest bonus was Office Hours. Of the six people that sat near me, I was the only one to use this invaluable resource. You get a 30min weekly call with a MGMAT instructor to discuss any aspect of your prep, be it RC, CR, geometry, etc. This was a great way to ask about advanced topics such as 700+ level overlapping set problems or the difference between which/that. If nothing else, I would just ask the instructor "discuss permutations" and we would go from there.

Overall, the course was solid. If you can spare the cash, it is a great way to keep on track and have an expert guide you. If you can't afford the course, get the course materials and you will not be disappointed.

I went into this class knowing I was not a great test taker and would need to improve a ton on my verbal skills in order to break 700. My Manhattan GMAT Professor Faruk Bursal was incredibly helpful in teaching how to approach the test so that timing wouldn't be an issue. The materials that you receive are incredibly helpful and versatile enough that you can adjust how much time you want to spend on a given subject depending on how comfortable you were. Manhattan GMAT also provides awesome excel files that help you budget your study time on a weekly basis. I wound up scoring in the 86th and 85th percentiles for the Verbal and Quant sections. This class was worth every penny.

Extremely happy with my MGMAT experience

January 11, 2011

I'm very satisfied with my MGMAT live experience. I decided on the live format because I live in a city that does not offer the in-person classes, and I'm so happy I went with it. The 9-week course is very well structured and extremely organized, and really builds upon your knowledge in a logical manner. Emily and Kara, the course instructors, were really all that you could hope for: patient, organized, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. They encouraged students to e-mail them any questions that arose throughout the week, always responding in a timely manner.

The classes were always very well organized. I really enjoyed the way the Quant portion of the class was structured: students are to review the concepts prior to the class, and then the concepts are tested through question "polling", really providing an opportunity to test your newly-acquired knowledge. I thought this was a very effective use of time. Having a team of instructors was also very useful: while one instructor teaches, the other instructor responds to students' questions in a chat window. I also really enjoyed and appreciated the half an hour Office Hours that students are given each week. I found the instructors I spoke with were very caring and helpful, and on many occasions the instructors wouldn't hesitate to spend an extra few minutes past the half hour time slot to finish up a problem I had trouble with.

The Manhattan materials are just excellent. I had written the GMAT once prior to this course and received a score of 640, which I was unhappy with. I had previously tried out one prep book from another company, and when I started with the Manhattan books, I was completely amazed by how detailed and coherent the information was. The Number Properties and Sentence Correction books, in particular, were very impressive. All of the books really offered many unique and effective strategies I had never previously heard of, and really seemed to touch upon everything. I was amazed at how easily digestible the information was presented.

All in all, I'm very pleased with my experience and really owe my jump from 640 to 710 to Manhattan.

Startegies and Material

I initially was planning to prep on my own for the GMAT and just take the test. Then someone suggested I take a prep course with Manhattan GMAT and am I glad I did.
Knowing the material is not enough for the GMAT learning the proper strategies is essential to a successful score on the GMAT. Without Manhattan GMAT I would have never learned those strategies. The instructors in my online prep course taught a basic strategy for each type of question so students could modify the techniques to fit themselves. The instructors also went over the various strategies to take to eliminate answer choices if you can not find a final solution to a question. Most importantly the instructors stress time management so that you keep on pace and don't fall behind during the test to avoid leaving answers blank at the end of the test (which will kill your score). Also what was very handy was the fact that the instructors gave strategies on how to handle the essay portion of the test.
Of course the Manhattan GMAT prep course covers the material as well; the instructors were very active in keeping the students involved and participating in the course. The way the instructors keep students involved makes sure the students pay attention and learn the material. I especially found this useful in the verbal section.
The material both online and hard-copy that Manhattan GMAT gives you is top notch. As a student you are given separate subject review books for both the quantitative and verbal subjects, an overall GMAT book full of strategies and problems, and separate quantitative and verbal problem books. As for online material students are given a standard recorded of each session; if you take an online course like me you will also have your recorded sessions available. Also online you have the availability to take many full practice exams, labs to practice and master your strategies, and other online sessions of various topics.
The instructors, teaching methods, and teaching material of the Manhattan GMAT prep course provide you with an excellent opportunity to gain a superb score on the GMAT and I would suggest it to any one planning to take the GMAT

660 to 750 in 3 months.

December 30, 2010

I signed up for Manhattan GMAT's 9-week live course after being disappointed with my first score (660). I had studied on my own using a KAPLAN prep-book. Obviously, I needed a bit more help to achieve my goals.

A colleague of mine went from a 660 to a 760 after taking the Manhattan GMAT class from the same instructor, Ron Purewal. I'm very grateful that I took my friend's advice because my second score was 750! I took the second exam 3 months after taking the first test.

Here is why Manhattan GMAT was right for me:
- There are so many different resources to use that you can use from web-tutoring, great exams, challenging problems, and online recording of classes.
- Their tips and tricks are spot on! Once I started implementing their recommendations my scores went up.
- Manhattan GMAT classes are offered at a range of times and locations.
- The weekly plans, including the classes, can be completed while you hold a time-intensive full-time job.
- I travel for work a few times a month and was able to keep up with the class by leveraging the online archive. Without this I would have been left far behind.
- The instructors are actually teachers! The last thing you want is to pay for some smart guy who scored 800 and can't help you replicate his results.

Manhattan GMAT is a great company for preparing students to take the GMAT. I had a great instructor who was engaged and energetic, as well as an extremely good teacher.

I think the materials cover all the necessary points, both for math and verbal. The wealth of material is almost overwhelming, but if your teacher guides you through what is most important (which ours did) its manageable.

I'm also very happy with the results. I improved 50 points, to a 760 through the Manhattan GMAT course. This takes me from an average score at the top 5 business schools to within the top 90% of accepted students for my target schoos. I am extremely happy with the results!

Dan had a fantastic, patient, and effective instructional style. His delivery and class engagement were top notch and really brought out the best in students, forcing even those who might struggle a bit to comprehend. There is a lot of homework and study content, and the more this is kept on top of, the more it will set students up for success (I fell behind pretty badly but still managed to do well on the test, which I attribute in large part to course absorption of material). Great class and definitely highly recommended!

My course with Manhattan Gmat far exceeded my expectations. They provided me all of the tools and resources I needed to perform well on the exam. I found the online materials to be extensive and very helpful, especially since I was traveling 90% of the time while I was studying. I also appreciated Manhattan Gmat's approach, which focused on teaching the underlying concepts of the material instead of only focusing on guessing and timing strategies. My instructor was amazing and had a keen ability to articulate complex concepts in an easy to understand manner. He also did an excellent job of pacing the class so that everyone's questions were answered, but he never slowed the class down for one particular person. I After I took several practice tests, my instructor also spent time reviewing my test data and providing me with personalized feedback to improve my performance. Overall, great experience.

If you are serious about getting a good score

December 2, 2010

On the first day of class, our instructor Gregg told us the most important lesson of all: taking this class won't guarantee a good score but putting in the work will. That said, this class will teach you strategies that will help you on test day. I am a native-English speaker and found that my biggest area of improvement from my first diagnostic test to the real thing was on verbal. I scored 740 on the actual test (Q-48/V-44) after starting out at roughly 640 (Q-44, V-34) level at the beginning of the course.

Gregg makes learning the material interesting. He has a great sense of humor and creates a fun class environment. He is very clear in his style of teaching and moves through the structured class at a speed that is ideal for someone who knows the material but can use a refresher on some concepts. For someone hoping to score over 700+, the class was challenging enough and Gregg offered multiple ways to solve difficult problems. The instructor, the class, and the company are all top-notch.

Build a solid foundation and learn the best strategies.

December 1, 2010

  • GMAT ScoresBefore: N/A After: 750

Frist, I am a very picky shopper, and I researched extensively before settling with MGMAT. I am very happy with the result as I made a vast improvement on verbal.

If you take a full advantage of MGMAT's resources, you will solidify your base knowledge on all aspect of GMAT and learn a great deal of effective strategies. Keep up with the syllabus and complete everything in the curriculum. Rest is up to you. Practice!! Practice!! Practice!!

Math: 49
I thought that I did not need as much help on math except I just needed to refresh my memory , but MGMAT provided me with time saving tactics and strategies in approaching frequently appeared question types. Some people may be able to finish math section early, but I needed full 75mins on every practice exams I took. I found real exam harder and thought that I did worse than 49. I probably would have scored lower if I wasn't able to utilize strategies MGMAT taught me.

Verbal: 42
I am not a native speaker, so I was most concerned with verbal section. MGMAT breaks down and tackles questions by their types and subsections of the types. Manhattan SC books are considered the SC bible by many. I didn't need additional materials besides MGMAT lessons and books. I just took as many practice exams as I could leading up to the real test with careful analysis on questions I found were tough.

Insturctor:
I took GMAT twice. One on October and other on November. I didn't have a designated instructor as I was a guided self study customer, but the guided self study comes with two 30 minute sessions with an instructor and post exam analysis session. Stacey took extra time to help me figure out my weaknesses after my first GMAT, and I made a vast improvement on verbal on the second attempt. MGMAT claims that their instructors are what separates MGMAT with the rest, and I strongly agree.

Good luck everyone who wish to beat the GMAT.

Thank you Stacey and Ron from MGMAT!!

Irreverent and determined. Jayson kept class interesting with his personal anecdotes and self depricating humor. His attitude is leave no student or question behind, always patient he finds a way to answer tough questions. I really appreciated the emphasis on instruction over in class studying that is built into the Manhattan curriculum. In Jayson's class you are treated like an adult who can plan and study independently but wants a teacher to explain and clarify new and tricky topics. I never felt like my time was wasted on the trivial or the obvious.
I have always considered myself a good student, but I never took to proper grammar. Thanks to my MGMAT class I can't even send a work email without checking to make sure my pronouns have antecedents. Even if I had never taken the GMAT I would have gotten my money's worth for the knowledge I gained at as a writer. If you're still not convinced MGMAT has the cure for what ails your verbal score, let me add that I'm an engineer who avoided English classes for my entire formal education.

The course was helpful in that it built the foundations of math and verbal first before tackling the test taking strategy. The instructor was very helpful in teaching things in a simple and logical way. Also, he was very available for any question beyond class. The books are fantastic! My GMAT score improved significantly from the first time to the second time taking the test. I was not happy with the score on my first test, but on the second one I executed the test taking strategy learned in class (especially managing time and focusing on the easy questions) and I hit 700. I?m highly satisfied.

Instructors:

If you spend ANYTIME on the Manhattan GMAT forums, you'll realize that Stacey Koprince is extremely experienced and knows the GMAT in and out as well as anyone. She was incredible - she was patient, thorough, and clear.

Brett Beach Kimball was a younger, newer instructor, but equally as great. He was full of enthusiasm and was always extremely responsive and thorough in his email responses (outside of class time!).

The material from MGMAT is hands down the most comprehensive, complete, study package. All the OG guides. A guide for each Verbal and Quant question. The only complaint I had was that studying for GMAT in general requires a lot of organization and time analyzing what you got wrong, and inputting answers/data into spreadsheets to track your progress.

I started MGMAT with a 620-640 score. 5 months later - 720!

Very qualified, has a lot of experience teaching the course, brought new ideas to the classroom

Course Material:
Verbal course material was extremely helpful and help me get from a 32 when I started to a 41 on the test day.
Math is helpful is you are struggling with it, but you may need additional help if you are in late 40s and want to get to 50/51

Overall experience: Very helpful, helped me stay on top of things, despite heavy work schedule. Only worked during the weekends and the classes helped me get an excellent primer on the topics covered. I spent 2 months after the classes got over on my own, but the foundation the course built was very useful.
