I think that the Economist GMAT Tutor is great and very helpful program. It is quite flexible and allows you to practice anytime you can find some free time. The GMAT Tutor private sessions were also great. Additionally, I found the essay marking is a great service that the Economist GMAT provides. I got immediately response (within 24h hours) with some practical and grammar tips, which were very helpful.

Economist GMAT Tutor comes with a free trial. Before you decide to purchase it, I recommend that you take the 7-day free trial and see whether you like it.

I wish you good luck!

The Economist - GMAT Tutor Review

This prep course is perfect for those people on the go with chaotic lives. The strength of this course comes from its ability to identify your weakest subjects and guide you through them until you understand the concept. However, I found that its strength can also be a slight weakness when you're crammed on time and cannot advance to the next section while you're on the auto pilot study mode (which you have the ability to manually override). Overall, I enjoyed the course and would recommend this to anyone who is thinking about taking the test. The Economist GMAT course is affordable and by far the best bang for your buck.

Really Helpful Program! Did Much Better Than Expected for a Rushed Prep

December 12, 2013

I kind of got a late start to my GMAT prep and wouldn't have done nearly as well if I hadn't signed up for this program. I started with the 7 day trial period and after I signed up for the Complete pricing level. Since I was in such a rush and only had a little over a month before the exam, I only got through about a third of the program and probably would have done much better if I had completed the whole thing. I ended up getting a 650 overall on the GMAT but I have a very weak math background so my quant score pulled down my overall score. My verbal was 90th percentile. I improved over 100 points from my first practice tests in the program. I found the practice tests in the program very helpful and the tutor sessions were great for addressing specific problem types that were giving me trouble. The only thing I think that could be improved is the response time and length of responses to the ask a tutor questions. Some of them took a couple days for responses and some were only a couple sentences that didn't help much. But overall, this feature was useful and I did get some quality answers that helped me overcome some issues I was having with certain questions. I think this program is a great tool to include in your GMAT prep plan and definitely recommend it.

This course is fantastic!

The Economist GMAT Tutor is fantastic! To begin with, the content is rich. I've spent approximately 22 hours studying so far, and already feel that I could face the GMAT tomorrow with a large increase in my score. The lessons are easy to follow along with, and will give you more detailed examples/help or less, depending on how well you do on practice problems.

I also really like that the program will sprinkle in review problems from other sections you've learned, so that you continue to keep your skills sharp. Two great features that I've yet to use so far are The Economist GMAT Tutor's option to schedule a live tutoring session as well as a review of an essay you've written.

Globally GMAT Economist tutor is a good method and if coupled with some practice with the official book after finishing the course you can achieve significant score increase

Pros:
Very pleasant to use and flexible
Very complete quant preparation (all the concepts needed and a lot of exercises)
Good verbal preparation
Strategy tutoring sessions are useful

Cons:
Tutoring sessions are very demanded and thus it can take a while until you get a slot
Verbal part is easier than the real test

Try their free week trial and you will get addicted!

December 8, 2013

When I approached the GMAT, I started using the latest Official Guide (13) available.
After three weeks of practice, I could actually solve most of the questions, both quant and verbal, yet my great problem was that I needed more time than that allotted in the GMAT. In first practice test, one of the two free GMAC's Official prep tests, I scored 600.

After some search I decided to try the free week of The Economist GMAT Tutor. I liked the idea that non only the practice tests but the whole course was adaptive.
No longer than 3 days later, I had already decided that I would subscribe it.

These are the main strengths:

- The system really learns from your performance as the course goes further, and tailors the practice questions to your level.
- Any session of theory is followed by practice questions that help you to fix what you have just learnt.
- Practice questions about older lessons often appear, leading you to review regularly all the program.
- The practice tests are reliable predictor of your future performance. I took five of them and my scores were 740, 710, 710, 710 and finally 740. My real score was 750.
- The tutors provide precious tips about critical issues such as time management and strategic approach to each section.
- The quant section of the course helps to save a great amount of time and to tackle harder questions with an efficient and successful approach.
- The verbal section is by far were I made my greatest improvement. As a non-native English speaker, I have a good command of English. Still some parts of the verbal section -sentence correction above all- were really tricky to me. The course gave me some outstanding tools that led me to gain 45 (99th percentile) in the real GMAT.

However, there are a couple of flaws:
- The practice tests do not include neither the AWA nor the IR. Therefore, they do not provide a real GMAT experience in terms of timing and mental stress. To do so, you definitely need to use the GMAC's Official prep tests.
- The IR section of the course is really, really bad.

All that said, none of these minor downside undermines in any way the value of the course.

Every single Euro is worth spending, and I STRONGLY recommend anyone who aim at high score to subscribe.

Does the course make a miracle? Really, it does not.
But it gives some terrific tools that allow to tackle almost any kind of question that you will find in the real GMAT. The more you will devote to study and practice, the more you will improve.

My experiences at the Halfway Mark

December 7, 2013

Background : I have recently graduated from a reputed university and recruited in Sales & Marketing within one of the largest construction equipment businesses in the world. Got selected for the SIGM course at Stanford in the summer of 2014. Will apply to class of 2016 programs (next year)

I have been thinking about taking the GMAT for a long time now, and preparing for the last 4 months albeit not very seriously. Initially, I was skeptical about joining an online prep course but I wasn't satisfied with just working with the books. I bought the Manhattan GMAT series giving me access to their online tests where I got hammered with a 670 a month into prep. I finished the Kaplan Premier GMAT book in August which certainly helped me but I wasn't satisfied with my level of preparedness Around this time I took the first official Practice test and scored a 680, far below my target.

After a lot of research through the forums, I decided on enrolling for the Economist GMAT program. My take of the various reviews was that it was best suited for someone who could give it enough time, perfect for me since I had time on my side. Also, I was impressed by the program's availability anytime, anywhere through the net.

In spite of my rigorous work schedule I have tried to devote at least an hour a day (more on weekends) to the program, the best part about the interface is how it continually adapts to your style, for instance, I had issues in a certain math topic a while back, the program recognized my weakness and still keeps on asking question on that topic, sometimes out of the blue while you're working on a different section, this has helped me clear the concept as well as helped me concentrate better in tight situations, good positive reinforcement. Also, solving questions on the computer screen is good practice for the real thing.

I have felt myself improve over this time, both in terms of skills as well as concentration. And my practice scores have steadily improved. My second Official practice score was 740 and I still have 50% of this course to go. Just to put pressure on myself, I have registered for the GMAT exam (20th March '14). I plan on finishing the course by the mid Feb, which is when I will start giving the various practice exams, just to get in the groove.

The program also has features like Ask-A-Tutor and you can schedule live consultation sessions apart from the 5 practice exams and AWA Essay Reviews. I have deliberately saved mine since I want to finish the course before using these features. I have used the Ask-A-Tutor function for a few questions and the reply from the instructors has been quick and honest.

I have no doubt that any person who gives this course the time it needs will feel the improvement in his prep as well as concentration abilities.

660 to 700+

I first studied two months on my own for the GMAT with books from Kaplan, the OG, etc. I took the test and got a 660 Q42 V39. I was very disappointed. I knew that studying on books wouldn't be enough for me. I had a friend who did the Economist prep and got from 710 to 740. So I took the one week free trial and loved it! The course adapts to you and does an impressive jobs at teaching you all you need to know for the GMAT! I had a one to one tutoring session with Isaac, he was really involved and friendly like all the economist's consultants I talked to. Only trouble is I only had one month and only finished 38% of the course. But hey, I got my 700!! To be honest I was a bit disappointed by my math score but I felt on the day that it didn't go as well as usual. Here is the breakdown: 700 Q45 V41. Where I usually got Q48-49 and V39-41. I believe that if I complete the course to a 100%, I'll probably score around 720-740. On thing you should keep in mind is the economist prep gives you 100h of material + practice tests, which is massive! So give yourself 2-3 months to complete it. But I would definitely recommend it! If I could go back in time I would have started with this prep from the beginning.

Great course to study for GMAT

The first time I did my GMAT test, I did terrible. I did not know how to improve more so I looked online how I could improve my score. On the beatthegmat site i saw several online courses. I decided to try this one first, because the first week is for free. In this week I experienced the course in a positive manner, therefore I decided to give it a go.

A nice aspect of the course is that it adapts to your abilities. So for me, that meant that I got many questions with powers, since I find those very hard. In this way you practice quite a lot on the subjects you find difficult.
The explanation of the subjects are very practical, they focus on how you can easily handle a question in a logical way. Not in a difficult mathematical way, which i do not like, but in a practical way.
Between the lessons they give all kind of tips how the interpreter the (strange) GMAT questions.

A tip; start in time with this course because it takes a lot of hours to finish it. I needed one hour for 1%.

Quality Course for Working Professional with Crunched Time

As someone that did not have the time and flexibility in my schedule to take a traditional in-person course, The Economist?s GMAT course seemed like an exceptional alternative. I had heard about the course from a close friend that had taken the GMAT, but had taken a traditional in-person course and heard this was the best online course available.

The overview of each sections was easy to follow and I was able to take quality notes. I especially liked the fact that the online course was quite interactive, since sections ask you to respond after each reading/problem solving/etc. you stay engaged. If you can get past the poor humor, it was entertaining at some points.

Another plus was that you can put in the amount of time that you wish to send on each section if you are at a crunch for time, this was also helpful when I used The Economist?s GMAT course app on my iPhone.

I would recommend this course, but there were a few downfalls as well.

Although, I did appreciate the practice tests. They did not cover all sections timed at once. This I would have really liked to see. I wish also there were sections that I could review and print out if there was no access to internet, as I could only rely on my notes.

All in all, good for someone working full time that wants an engaging course without having to pay the absorbent prices of a GMAT course and study on their own time

I am 25% complete with this program and I could not be a bigger fan. I have yet to take a practice test since starting, but I have a feeling I will be receiving much improved results.

For anyone wondering if the cost of this program is worth it, IT IS! I was really struggling with keeping focus with studying by paper books and I do not have the time to commit to a face to face class. This program is the perfect compromise. It keeps me focused, disciplined, and most of all it makes learning fun!

I highly recommend this course.

I didn't know where to start studying when it came to prepping for the GMATs. The Economist helped guide my study strategy and also helped me solve problems more logically. I would recommend to anyone who is prepping for the test!

The reading study tools helped me to prioritize what portion of the questions to read and what parts would be useful in getting me to the right answer,

The math portion helped to refresh my math skills that were a little rusty and helped me to think more logically on how I could achieve the right answer, not through using algebraic expressions, easy problem solving (process of elimination, 3x3 tables, etc)

I am very happy with GMAT Tutor so far. I highly recommend it to anyone who wishes to learn the gmat tricks. The best part is probably how the program works: it walks you through every necessary steps and won't stop until you get it. I also think their IOS app is awesome, I can just start practicing whenever and wherever I want using my iPad or iPhone.
For those who esitate between online and real classes I would say go for this. You can meet with tutors via Skype and they were actually more useful than I originally thought.

Economist GMAT Tutor

I enrolled myself in the Economist GMAT Tutor specially to improve my verbal score. Being a non native english speaker I needed a course that will start from the basic and take me to advanced level and Economist GMAT Tutor exactly did that. Iam so thankful to it for this.

Its very interactive and guides you to pick the correct answers. There are numerous innovative training process in Economist GMAT Tutor like
1. Prompts to provide the reason when selected a wrong answer.
2, Develops a sense of time on how much we take for solving a problem
3. Clearly explains every options why its wrong or why its correct.
4. Forces us to think and then answer and not just guess the answer.
5. In quant section it solves every problem providing a guide as to how to do it
6. In quant the section of POE (estimating) an answer is particularly well made.
7. The support from the tutors when asked a question is really prompt, and well answered
8. With an AI based interactive judment it slowly raises the level of questions when I started answering the correct questions. It really helped.

With all these iam happy to have enrolled in this and particularly impressed with the verbal section and would highly recommend it to any one looking to improve verbal score. The quant section is equally good but for me the verbal section stands out.

I began the program hesitant because I had never taken an online prep course before the Economist GMAT Tutor. I thought that a program would be a waste of money, because I could just teach myself with a textbook. I was pleasantly surprised by how much the program helped me. With a busy schedule, you need something that you can use when you have time. The Economist GMAT Tutor worked with my schedule. The program adjusts to your weaknesses and the tutors are amazing. They seem like they sincerely care. I was surprised by how much they related to where I struggled and their gracious attitude when assisting me. The course could improve in regards to when you ask a question for a problem you are struggling with. The response time is slow and by the time they respond, they seemed to repeat the explanation the problem already gave. They do a good job keeping your attention by timing you randomly throughout the sessions. However, I did become bored part of the way through. Video explanations for problem areas you are struggling with would have been very helpful. But, overall I recommend this course.

Since I decided preparing for GMat I have taken classes in several academies, with different teachers but still I wasn't prepared to achieve the score I was aiming for (above 650 definately) until a friend of my with whom I had been preparing GMat, started speaking me about the GMat Tutor from The Economist as he had only been successfull in GMat after taking this course.
After having taken it all I can say it is a very complete course that not only teaches you the subjects on which you will be examined which it does indeed (plugging in technique, tree factor, etc), but you also learn in this course the technique of the exam and gives you very usefull tips as on where to pay close attention or in other words how GMat tries to confuse you and how to avoid this.
In conclusion, whether are in an advanced stage of your preparation for GMat or you are just considering preparing for it, I really recommend you take The Economist GMAT Tutor, it is definately worth its price.
