Enjoyed the teaching style and flexibility of videos

Being on a hectic schedule, I took the entire course from archived videos. The instructors were very articulate, and watching it on video makes it easy to skip the parts that are familiar to me and replay parts that are challenging. I believe doing problems online vs. on paper makes a huge difference, and really liked the homework questions they had online to practice. Verbal is very well taught. The only concern I have is their quant content may not be enough to achieve scores in the 48-51 range - personally I thought quant is best taught by MGMAT. But verbal is probably the taught as clearly as possible. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone scoring in the 650-700 range due to the 50 point guarantee!

Great cost benefit relationship for a GMAT course

I use to be very critical when contracting something and I believe Knewton has a very accesible price for a good GMAT review. It has a good cost-benefit relationship.

I liked in particular the interactive classes through Adobe software (which include chat and polls) and the amount of available exercises and GMAT tests (5). One of the keys for improvement is practice, and also the right atmosphere (web site) to review over and over all the topics.

Teachers work in a very casual way, but for sure have an excellent background, GMAT knowledge and also sense of humor; while the material used is very standard and can be downloaded in PDF.

Great Bargain

Overall, this was the course I chose because of the price. I think that Manhattan GMAT might be more comprehensive, but it is overpriced.

The techniques and review of high school information are the major components to the GMAT and I think Knewton accomplishes both of these very well.

The course consists of watching videos, (live or previously recorded 30min. - 1.5hrs each), taking quizzes, doing homework and taking assessments, both before and after a section. There are also several videos to explain topics and 5 GMAT Practice tests.

This is probably the best option for those on a budget. Make sure to look around and decide on the best option for your studying habits. Those that decide on Knewton, you can save $100 with my refer code: http://knewton.tellapal.com/a/clk/YVHcy

I really liked Knewton. It gave me the flexibility to study at my own pace. It was extremely convenient and offered really good resources. It's also nice that you can watch all of the classes over again for the whole year.

There were 2 cons: 1) The connection would time out from time to time. 2) The course is short so they go pretty fast, but if you have the discipline to go back and watch what you didn't understand the first time its ok.

Knewton help me to crack the gmat!

I took the knewton course because I wanted to improve at least 50 points.
However, with Knewton I improved 80 points in only two and half moths!!
In my first attempt with gmat, I did't score high in the verbal part. So reading Beat The Gmat Forum I find out about this new company that offers an online full course for the gmat.
I immediately signed up for the trial and I was fascinated with methodology.
I purchased the course and start taking advantage of the innovative system right way.
At first, some lesson were easy because I had already taken the gmat, but then they started to get more useful.
Knewton course help me to improve my verbal while revising my math concepts.
As a no-native speaker I needed to practice as much as possible my English, and Knewton was perfect for that.
Although I have more than two teachers because I made the course in less time than the schedule, all of them were extraordinary. Another advantage of the Knewton was the flexibility to change from one section to another in order to watch live classes. I really love that option.
Finally, I used a lot the email support service. Sometimes I had a doubt after the class and they reply with an excellent explanation. Write to them!

The only choice to consider if you don't have $1200 to blow

In my opinion:

1) If you are studying from a book, you are wasting your time--the test is on a computer, you should be studying on a computer. Knewton's prep is all online, getting you familiar with the look and feel of the actual test.

2) If a test prep company's payment is not tied to your success, something is wrong. Test prep should be pay for performance--Knewton's 50 point money back guarantee ensures that if they don't get you results, they don't get paid, and I like that.

3) The class should be scheduled around my life--my life shouldn't be scheduled around the class. If you're a regular schedule type of person, then Newton's live online classes are great for you. But if you're someone whose schedule changes constantly and who has to fit in studying whenever the opportunity presents itself, On Demand classes are by far the best solution. It's nearly identical to the live online class experience, except that you can watch it at 1 am or during a lunch break at work, and you can pause and rewind. Class starts when you decide and it breaks when you decide, and you don't even have to travel anywhere.

Additional Note: Although I was not personally in this situation, I would expect that the people who would benefit from this course the most are those in the 600s trying to break into the 700s. People trying to to move from low 700s to high 700s will have to go above and beyond the standard Knewton course material to achieve that, and I suspect that those starting below 600 may benefit from a class that covers the basic material more thoroughly.

Amazing GMAT course - redefining learning!

In my opinion, Knewton is really the best way to learn. I had a super busy schedule and there was no way that I was running to GMAT prep centers after a long day of work. Instead, I logged in 2x a week at night from the comfort of my own room, and engaged in a highly interactive, informative learning environment that really geared my up for my GMAT.

In my opinion the best part of Knewton are the quality of the teachers. I have had some great teachers in the past, but the magic of Knewton's teachers is that they're able to turn really dry, boring topics (fraction-decimal conversions anyone?) into a really engaging session. It's a hard task to keep students engaged virtually, but they've succeeded in a BIG way.

I also really valued the CATs - the Knewton CATs exactly mirrorred my final GMAT score and was able to really pinpoint the weaknesses. I also found a lot of value from emailing their email with any other questions while class is not in session. They will always get back to me in 12 hours with a detailed, well-thought out explanation for any questions I was stuck on, and offered further suggestions for improvement.

The Knewton course was invaluable to my GMAT prep and I would not have been able to attain my score (700+) without it. Thanks Knewton!

The BEST GMAT Prep Course, Hands Down!

July 23, 2010
  • Teacher: Chris Wu, Rich Zwelling, Adam Sticklor
  • Recommended forVerbal: Yes  Math: Yes

I usually don't write reviews like this, but I've been through Kaplan, Princeton Review, and Manhattan GMAT course materials and honestly, I was never satisfied with a test prep company until Knewton. I actually found out about Knewton here on Beat the GMAT and two Knewton webinars later, I was hooked.

I had never taken an online class before, so I was kind of nervous about how it would go, but I wanted to be open minded and give it a chance. I was blown away by how knowledgeable and personable my teachers were. They had a great sense of humor and definitely knew how to keep me engaged in the material. For someone with a short attention span, 3 hours of class is a really long time, but I never lost interest with Chris Wu, Rich Zwelling, and Adam Sticklor around. My class loved to collect Chris' Jersey Shore fist pumps, virtually laughed when Chris tried unsuccessfully to teach Adam how to first pump (sorry, Adam), and asked for encores of Rich's recitation of 100 digits of pi.

The homework and assessments were helpful in determining what I needed to work on. I thought the questions were challenging and stimulating and appreciated all of the extra questions offered throughout the course. It was also nice that if I couldn't finish my homework at times, I could always stop and come back to complete it.

The classroom is extremely interactive. I never had a question go unanswered by the teacher or TA. Sometimes my friends would ask me why I would choose an online classroom as opposed to a physical classroom, and honestly, I actually think the online classroom was really suitable for me. For someone who can be shy around classmates, it helped that I could privately message the teacher or TA for an extra explanation or example to understand the concepts better. It was also great to get words of encouragement from my teachers and TAs.

I actually have yet to take the GMAT after my Knewton course, but I will definitely update everyone here once I do. I have all the confidence in the world that Knewton will get me the score I want and deserve.

Knewton's online review is the most comprehensive, in-depth review of any course. I have taken Kaplan for GMAT and Princeton for LSAT and I was by far more impressed with the quality of review that Knewton provides. The teachers go out of their way to make sure you understand all the questions. The syllabus is outstanding. It doesn't just teach you strategies, but also how to think about each problem and it actually teaches you math!!! I did not need to improve my Verbal score, but Knewton helped me understand basic grammar rules that I had forgotten and that are easily confused on a timed test. I highly recommend Knewton due to it's in-depth coursework, intelligent professors and flexibility. You can switch classes to suit your schedule....re-take classes on demand and submit any tough questions to their academics dep't and you will get a detailed response within 24 hours. Knewton is an investment worth taking!!

+: a really goog thing is to refresh your understanding of fundamantal pieces of knowledge, because many people make mistakes due to their ignorance in some basic consepts (for example, prime numbers, some arithmetic, geometry, etc.)
+: video classes are really good, energetic, and helpful
+: the way Knewton teach students really gives them the promissed imporvement in their scores.

-:the number of tasks is little bit small, some of them might be more difficult.

All in all, Knewton warrants your progression (+50 points minimum) and therefore is highly valuable.

Good GMAT Prep Value if You're Somewhat Prepared Already

The Knewton course was extremely user-friendly. At first I wanted face-to-face instruction in a classroom setting but found that approach to be cost-prohibitive. I chose Knewton simply because I didn't have $1,200 to spend on the other GMAT prep courses. I did find that Knewton's teaching method, convenience, and price fit some of my criteria so I gave it a shot. I was somewhat disappointed that I paid $800 instead of the $690 I began getting offered when I called in, and saw as a promotion on the website shortly thereafter. I would say that the teachers are fun, direct, and easy to "approach" (virtually). I used to look forward to the witty banter, good test-taking tips, etc. The web presentations are somewhat easy to follow if you already know the material, but I found that if I didn't know the topic well, I had to wait for the class presentation. I thought the course materials could have been more thorough. The course works on internet explorer and mozilla firefox (I didn't test any other browsers); it also works on ultra-secure company networks. I thought they could benefit by having an on-demand hotline for student questions. The periodic GMAT simulations were a good value, as well as the feedback received after each homework and quiz (tells you what you miss, and allows you to review that topic). Overall, a really good course if you learn well online, take the time, and take the course seriously.

Excellent use of Technology on a GMAT course

What is not to like about Knewton? The curriculum had the perfect pace and enough time between same-topic sessions and the instructors were top-notch.

A feature I particularly liked about the course was the pre-class assessments, which helped me gauge my proficiency on a topic before the session and allowed me to focus on it during a class.

I also appreciated the responsiveness of both the instructor or the TA during the class, some of my friends taking traditional GMAT courses would tell me that the most important thing in a course for them was the interaction with the instructor, but after taking the Knewton course, I can truly say that there is as much student-instructor interaction on Knewton as in a traditional course.

I could go on and on about the things I liked about the course, but I will simplify it for you:

Geeat instructors + Live and pre-recorded sessions + office hours + unbeatable price = NO BRAINER!

Excellent Class for the Self-Motivated Student

July 21, 2010

The Knewton course is a fantastic option for someone who knows what they want to get out of a GMAT prep. I had taken the GMAT twice before taking the class and was scoring well, but not as well as I would like. There were certain areas that I wanted to focus on, but I didn't want to have to sit through classroom sessions dominated by people who had never before taken the test.

Thus, I consider the flexible content structure the strongest asset of the Knewton program. Through the weekly homework and extra practice problems, Knewton's adaptive learning program honed in on my problem areas and allowed me to maximize the value of my study time.

Another advantage of the Knewton program that I really enjoyed was the ability to watch the same classroom session as many times as I wanted. There were multiple times where I re-watched a lesson I had already attended to help solidify a tricky concept. Also, Knewton gives you the option of watching the same lesson taught by a different instructor and having another person explain something to you, in a slightly different way, is very helpful with understanding a difficult topic.

The only thing I think Knewton could do better is provide more practice problems. My personal Progress Tracker showed me the areas that I most needed to work on, but there wasn't a way to click on a direct link for multiple example problems in that area. There were ample problems for practice between the homework, practice tests and extra problem sets, but a focused collection of problems would have been nice.

Overall, I think Knewton is a fantastic value and I couldn't imagine paying triple the cost that some other programs charge. As long as you're self-disciplined enough to stick to the Syllabus, this class is an excellent option for any prospective GMAT taker.

I would recommend Knewton as a prep course for people who are already familiar with GMAT structure and content but just need that discipline and defined timeline. I used Knewton after I had bombed my first GMAT attempt and found it was a great tool for continuity and motivation. Teachers were upbeat and knowledgeable, online content easy to navigate, and homework assignments pretty representative of the real test questions.

However, on Knewton practice tests, I scored way lower than on GMAT Preps and, eventually, on the actual GMAT (in mid 600s, while up to 750 on GMAT Prep and 710 on the real thing). Also, I could have used even more practice materials, especially for quant.

Overall, a great tool for repeat GMAT takers, would definitely recommend!

I've used a couple of study guides and an another online resource in addition to Knewton. In my experience, the Knewton programs has be the cream of the crop. Their study materials were very high quality and the closest you get to the actual test (aside for the Official Guide from GMAC). The instructors were very skilled in their teaching approaches and explanations.

Also, I found that it was really helpful that Knewton used 1-2 TA's during class in addition to the instructor. This keep the pace moving with still addressing the questions that arose during class.

Five stars!

The live class environment is pretty cool. Basically the instructor goes over techniques and then followed by questions that are gone over live. Students can ask questions about topics live in class through chat. There is quite a bit of workload and some questions do repeat though. There need to be some more help (like a forum?) outside of live classes. There are special help classes but those only cover a few questions.

Thumbs Up! Great Teachers - Great Course - some minor improvements could be done

July 21, 2010
  • Teacher: Rich Zwelling - Evan Seigel
  • Recommended forVerbal: Yes  Math: Yes
  • GMAT ScoresBefore: 640 After: 710

I scored a 640 on GMAT in my first attempt. I really wanted to get somewhere around 690 to be able to comfortably apply in some top tier schools. Work and travel like most of you guys have was keeping me really very busy. I did not get enough time consistently during weekdays to go over the basic coursework myself and with the 50 point guarantee, signing up for Knewton GMAT course was no brainer.

Rich, Evan, Chris, James were my instructors. They were flat plane awesome. I could ask any question to them and they would answer them. Sometimes I felt I asked too much, but my questions were never ignored. The style of teaching with some fun was the best part. I also watched many of the archived videos for Sentence Correction to memorize the 9-10 basic rules that are tested on GMAT.

In short, here are the positives -
Excellent Instructors especially the ones I mentioned. And by the way consider yourself lucky if Dave Ingber takes one of your sessions. He is good
Good content and practice
All 5 GMAT tests were pretty consistent for me. My actual GMAT score was exactly what I got in 3 out of the 5 tests they had
Listening to archived lessons was a big plus - anytime on demand
Office hours is the best feature they have IMO. You can watch 5-6 problems explained in 90 minutes 2-3 times a week now. If you miss one, catch it in archived section. Those problems are mostly 700+ level questions discussed. Very crucial if you aim to go beyond 700
50 point money back guarantee is the best out in the market

Some scope for improvement -

They can chop down some of the SC and Quant lessons. It can become difficult to absorb sometimes because so much is covered in one session in some of those sections
Even though GMAT tests were pretty good, but real GMAT Math was way tougher than any other test I have given including GMAT Prep. So maybe include some real tough questions in the sample tests
Keep the best instructors they have

I scored a 710 - kudos to Knewton and I am very happy I made the right decision to go with them. Its worth it. You can get some discounts if you refer a friend, so it is definitely worth the time and money spent. It is also very flexible and you can change sections as and when you want. Good luck!

Knewton provided structure and content

I was uncertain about the Knewton GMAT prep course because I had never taken an all online course before. I have been out of school since 2006 (MS in Mech Eng) and felt a little rusty on my verbal and quantitative skills. I took the free diagnostic GMAT test and bombed it (high 500s). I was pretty disheartened but I resolved to finish the Knewton course and see what score I could achieve after the course.

The classes were great in providing the content of the materials but the more important part of the course was that it saved a record of EVERY single homework and diagnostic GMAT test you took. After every single homework session or test session I would review the questions I missed and try to learn the concepts behind the questions. I just took another diagnostic GMAT and achieved a 710 so I am very satisfied with the course.
