An excellent course; the math segments in particular were of great use to me. The teachers cover a lot of material rapidly and in a short amount of time, so it's essential to stay on top of the "homework" assignments and do the prep work before each lesson.

120 point improvement!

I had not taken the GMAT prior to taking the Knewton course, but I scored a 620 on my diagnostic before the course started. From there I set a goal of 700. After all was said and done, I ended up with a 740 on the exam, and I was thrilled!

My schedule was quite hectic while I was preparing, so I wasn't able to stick to one section. There are so many options to switch sections and watch pre-recorded classes that it didn't negatively affect me at all.

The instructors were all great. Even in the recorded sessions they were engaging. They made some pretty boring subject matter not so painful (they even made me laugh a few times!).

I highly recommend the Knewton course for anyone who wants to maximize their score on the GMAT!

Be Self-Motivated

I took Knewton's 4-month option that did NOT include live classes, so I'm not sure if this applies to their longer, more expensive option.

Knewton's online course is great in that it is really flexible and geared toward each individual's strengths and weaknesses. As a teacher myself, I liked Knewton's data-driven style and its tracking of my progress. I also liked their 50-point moneyback guarantee.

Be warned, though. Not having to show up to class, and having so much flexibility makes it very easy to slack off. If you're not disciplined and self-motivated, you're not going to find this style helpful. I found the writing portion to be very weak. Maybe I didn't know how to use it, but there wasn't much on that aspect of the GMAT.

All in all, I would recommend Knewton. If nothing else, if you don't improve by 50 points, you get your money back. That's not bad.

Convenient, thorough prep course

August 10, 2011
  • Teacher: n/a - (on demand)

This course has most definitely helped me in effectively studying for the GMAT. My diagnostic score with Knewton was only a 600, so I was pretty demoralized. I even got a 540 and a 560 as two of my practice test scores after taking some of the course. However, when I took the CATs from GMAC, I scored a 690 and 700. My theory is that Knewton practice tests are slightly harder; given this, I think they provide good practice.

With regards to the actual content, I cannot think of any criticisms. Knewton covers all of the relevant material one would need to study. I feel that the Quantitative benefited me more. I've always been good at math - I though the BC calculus exam was a joke in high school. But, everyone forgets basic number properties and geometric formulas; Knewton covers all of these adequately. Also, the test taking strategies are useful for saving valuable time.

The verbal, on the other hand, I did not as useful. It was good, but I think I just slacked off. I didn't use their "MAP" strategy, and I fell asleep for a few of the video lessons - this was probably due to me being tired and hot from the Texas heat. However, the sentence correction lessons were good. I've always been a grammar nazi, but Knewton did help me take less time on the sentence correction questions.

I would highly recommend Knewton to anyone who wants some good practice material and informative lessons. The convenience of being able to learn at your own pace is nice. Had I paid more attention to the lessons and put more effort into the practice material, I could probably have scored better. Even slacking off, I was able to pull of a decent score... so give Knewton a try!

Great Course!

This was an extremely adaptable and well-rounded course. The curriculum covers everything you need to know for the GMAT. It not only gives you the fundamental skills, but also provides the "tricks of the trade" to succeed. By signing up for the course, I had greater incentive to crack down and get serious about my studying. I completed all of the required coursework, as well as all of the extra material. I improved my score by 70 points and was extremely satisfied with the content and the way it was presented. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend many of the live sessions (which I would recommend if you're able to), but I was still able to watch all of the pre-recorded lessons with the same effect. The course can fit any schedule and can be completed at your own pace. If I were to give a single criticism, it would be that you are not able to retake the practice tests. Six practice tests may seem sufficient, but I would have liked to have been able to retake them once completing the coursework. Overall, the teachers were great, and I would highly recommend the course to anyone serious about doing well on the GMAT.

My experience with Knewton was through the 'on demand' course. It definitely requires some determination and motivation to continue studying. But for a busy professional, it is an excellent way to study at your own pace.

There were many, many classes. At times the amount of homework, videos, and extras can seem like a little much. But it is all definitely worth it! You will have more than plenty of resources to work on and to improve with.

The teachers were amazing! Everyone was fantastic and brought there own characteristics that really help you approach the different kind of questions effectively.

I particularly enjoyed my verbal lessons with Dave and Jen, great chemistry that in a weird way helps you stay engaged and learn the material!

I was skeptical when I first came signed up, but it worked! It was great. I can't show my appreciation enough. Thank you Knewton!

The quality of the lesson is excellent. Before the GMAT, I score poorly on the exam since I don't know the key to these exams. The instructors provide good lead into how to write each part of the exam. I would definitely recommend anyone who need to the exam, to sign for for Knewton.

Also, I have this course boost my confidence in doing good in the GMAT. Prior to the course, I have no guarantee at all.

I will be taking the GMAT soon and will report back my score (I am sure the improvement will be substantial).

Knewton is very well designed and its so convenient to use. I used Kaplan before and the multiple books were frustrating. Kaplan has a one program fits all mentality and it doesn't work for all. I love Knewton interface and the at which the study material changes to fit the needs of the student. Its nice to have everything on-line and to be able to quickly reference anything is a huge help. Would def recommend.

Well, Knewton is a really good course. The course helped me a lot in understanding the basics of GMAT exam. Even though it's exams seems simple, but are fairly complex and it's score is a fair representation of the actual exam. More importantly, they are one of the most reasonable courses with a very competitive offering. I would recommend Knewton to anyone.

Knewton actually holds it's 50 point guarantee, and will refund your money if you do not achieve the score.

All the best to other GMAT students.

Deep Content, Fantastic Teachers

July 23, 2011
  • Teacher: Jen Rugani & Rich Zwelling
  • Recommended forVerbal: Yes  Math: Yes
  • GMAT ScoresBefore: N/A After: N/A

Summary: Knewton is very, very good. The amount of material it offers, in combination with the knowledgeable and engaging teachers is a deal that's tough to beat (despite the cost). Be prepared, if you commit to it, plan on spending at least 14-20 hours a week, if not more.

Teacher(s): One of the best asset to the class. They were awesome to say the least. Energizing, funny, and engaging. They know the material and are challenging (in a constructive sort-of way) to the class. The class definitely bonds well around the teacher. Highly recommend Jen Rugani & Rich Zwelling. A fantastic team!

Curriculum: Another one of Knewton's strengths. A deep knowledge base that covers all aspects of the GMAT. You can go as high-level or as detailed as you need to get the content down. Besides covering Quant and Verbal, they also go over strategies for preparing and during test day.

Technology: Hit and miss here. On the plus side, it's very technologically advance. Very interactive. And has multiple classes on each subject matter "on demand", in case a class is missed. On the negative side, there are constant "technical difficulties" that can rob the momentum during class.

Overall - it's a great course, highly recommended. It definitely is getting me prepared for my GMAT later this year. A great confidence builder. Thanks Knewton!

The online course from Knewton was fantastic. I really struggled with math at the beginning of the course. I forgot alot of the basic rules of high school level math such as integers, sets, prime numbers, factors, etc. After a few refresher classes and some tips from Knewton, I went from getting 20-30% on my math quizzes to 90-100%. I always performed well on the verbal section so the impact was less noticeable but Knewton has been great for me.

I didn't have a lot of time for my school application. I wanted to apply in round 2 which was right after the new year holidays. I took my first GMAT in September and I was not completely pleased with my score. (very unbalanced verbal/math score) I had 3 months left to retake GMAT and complete my application. I decided to sign up with knewton to improve my score. I watched the VDO at my own pace (rushed!) and my score improved by +30 in just 1.5 months (I took again in early November). Thanks KNEWTON!

Knewton is a great investment. It is easy to use and the live classes are great. The instructors really take the time to make sure the students understand the lessons. What i love the most of this program is the On-Demand classes. I am able to review lessons at my own pace and review it as many times as needed. I truly believe this program is worth the money and I would recommend it to anyone preparing for the GMAT. I am truly satisfied with my investment in this program.

To me Knewton is a dream course for a non-traditional "student" - a business professional with two decades of experience, a demanding job and a young family. I did not have time for full-day weekend in-person courses nor to even keep up with live online classes. Knewton offers a repository of on-demand courses for every lesson session, which allowed me to study at the hours convenient to my schedule. I could also sample a range of teaching styles and then focus on lessons led by the instructors that I found most helpful. For the limited amount of hours that I was able to put into studying for the GMAT, I was very happy with the return that I got - my sense is that the Knewton founder and his staff have "cracked the code" quite effectively.

Fantastic GMAT Prep class

I thought buying GMAT books and studying on my own would be the best way to conquer the GMAT?boy was I wrong. I bought five different books, that included practice tests and cds, thinking that the information in the books would be all that I need to beat the GMAT. After 4 months of studying about 2 hours every night, the highest I scored on a practice test was 540. I then took the GMAT and scored a 550. I then decided to get some help.
At my first online class, my wife walked into the room and commented on how skeptical she was about the course and if it would really help. She then sat through about an hour of the class because the teacher was so entertaining. I think that was one of the major reasons that Knewton is such a success?because they have the best teachers that make the material interesting.
I went through the 6 week Knewton class schedule, doing all of the homework, classes, and practice exams. After all that hard work, I went and took the GMAT again and score a 650.
I know that people check these testimonials and try to see if they would get the same results. Well, I graduated with a BS in construction management and have been out of school for 4 years?so if I can do it, so can you!

Solid program with few flaws

July 7, 2011
  • Teacher: Jen Rugani
  • Recommended forVerbal: Yes  Math: Yes
  • GMAT ScoresBefore: N/A After: 730

To provide a little context for my review, I think it's helpful to note the following. I took a diagnostic GMAT at the beginning of the Knewton course with zero study preparation and scored 560. After completing all Knewton content as well as both free GMAC practice tests, I scored a 730 (77th % quant, 97th % verbal). I was very happy with the end result that Knewton helped me to achieve, and would recommend Knewton with only a few caveats. Here are a few specific pros and cons of the program that I would encourage any prospective Knewton students to consider:

PROS
-Flexibility. The capability to watch all of the video lessons on demand and complete all of my practice homework online was absolutely critical. My schedule did not allow for having to attend live classes or lug practice books around.

-High quality teachers. The on demand videos by Dave Engber and Jen Rugani (Verbal) and Jess Nepom and Rich Zwelling (Quant) were very high quality. All of these instructors are sharp and able to keep up the pace and energy level of the lectures.

-Concept review materials. Knewton has an extensive library of review material for specific concepts that are tested on the GMAT. I found these materials to be very well written and helpful.

-Curriculum. Knewton's curriculum covers all of the important concepts and organizes the content of the lectures in a logical manner.

CONS
-Personal accessibility. Especially given the cost of the program, I think Knewton should offer opportunities to provide limited one-on-one assistance to students. I really appreciated being able to send in 4 or so sets of AWA essays, for which I received great feedback and advice, but I understand Knewton is going to limit the number of essays each student can submit going forward. Towards the end of the program, I found my scores levelling out and I felt that I could have really used a 10-15 minute consultation to talk about my problem areas and how to improve (the practice problems and concept library on their own were not enough for me). Knewton is also moving from responding to individual questions emailed to their academics "helpline" address to directing students to a Q&A message board. I'm not keen on these moves away from personal contact, especially since each student is paying hundreds of dollars for their help.

-Limited practice problems. I would have really benefited from additional quant problems that targeted my weak areas. Knewton is able to identify your weak performance areas by analyzing your problem set and practice test results, but I was disappointed that they didn't do a better job of using this data to provide targeted lessons that drill your weak areas. Once I had completed all of the Knewton course material, I felt like I had nowhere left to go to improve my score.

I'm a young single mother, and after graduating college, I still wanted to pursue my masters. I knew I didn't have the time to drive to GMAT prep courses, so Knewton was like a God sent option! I could watch videos ANYTIME. There are also weekly live classes online and you basically feel like you are in a classroom! Very easy to ask questions to your instructor, and I have no doubt I will be so ready for the GMAT when I do take it. Also, it's SO affordable! I paid $450 for an entire year worth of GMAT prep.

The biggest USP for knewton is its teachers. Adam and Chris are great mentors and they do not teach you how to do questions, but how to do them right. I attended classess with a couple of other teachers as well, such as Steven and Jen Rugani, and they all were equally impressive.

I found Knewton to be a great course especially if you have a busy work schedule and dont have the time to be enrolled in a "fixed classroom" type of prep course. The scheduled courses, assingments, course notes help you to stay on track and be focused while the on demand sessions allow you the flexibility to manage your GMAT prep and your work schedule. I found the verbal section to be especially helpful and the instructors have a very creative, interesting and relaxed way of teaching....their sense of humor helps to get through intense GMAT sessions! Overall, I would definitely recommend Knewton to anyone who is looking to boost their GMAT score while working with a flexible, fun and easy to follow online program.
