I've been to a lot of prep schools. Wasted a lot of money. Finally, something that actually works for me. Study at my own pace. I dont feel shy or feel like I'm bothering the rest of the class with my excessive questions. Since there are at least 2 teachers during the online course, one serves as teaching the material and the other serves as answering questions. No time is wasted. Teachers are actually sincere about helping you succeed. Now...all they need to do now is figure out how to integrate the course using an app...that would be genius!

Great experience with Knewton, definitely recommend

June 21, 2011

First off, let me say that I didn't really get the score I was expecting on the actual GMAT, but none the less, I thought Knewton was a great course. The teachers are engaging, the material is fantastic and the course is super convenient. I gave the GMAT last November for the first time and scored 640. That was way too low for me to get into the schools of my choice, so I decided to give it again. I gave it yesterday and scored 710. I was scoring amazingly in my practice CATs. I took the GMATPREP CATs 4 times and scored 750,720,770 and 780, which is why I was kind of disappointed with a 710, but oh well. I think with a strong application, it should be enough to get into decent schools.

I considered many courses before deciding on Knewton. For people working full time, this is definitely the best course, in my opinion. It is super convenient since its all online and it has tons of material to keep you busy and engaged. There are 13 classes which you can view Live or On Demand. I ended up watching all of them On Demand coz I could never wake up for the Live class! You can sign up for different live classes though, and also switch to different classes in the middle of the course. Dave ingber, Jen Rugani, Jess Nepom and Rich Zwelling are great instructors. They are articulate, knowledgeable and do a great job of engaging students. The homeworks are good and there is more than enough "extra practice" homework as well to keep you busy. More than anything, I just love the convenience of being able to watch the lectures at my own convenience. Last year, when I took the GMAT, about a month away from my prep, I considered taking a class. I went and sat in on one Kaplan class for free, they were kind enough to give me one free class to evaluate, and what I found is that I got tired just driving over, finding parking, sitting in the cold classroom forced to go at others pace. That's just my opinion.

Overall, here are the features that appealed to me: Convenience of doing it online, good instructors, plenty of homework, Concept Queues that let you view your weak topics in detail, 6 CATs, cheap compared to classroom courses, oh, they had this special that combined some 800 Beat the GMAT practice questions with he Knewton course for 345 when I signed up, which was great, I completed all the BTG practice stuff.

Couple of negatives: You cannot repeat the CATs. You can take each just once. Of course you can review them later. Also, the 'progress bar' never seemed to work correctly for me, so I just stopped using it to gauge my performance.

I think Knewton was great, it definitely improved my score on the practice CATs dramatically! The actual test honestly was very very hard - I did not see a single repeating 'pattern' of problem, it looked completely alien to me. Definitely recommend to people wanting to take a moderately priced course.

Innovative approach and extra ordinary faculty

I found the curriculum very helpful especially of the Verbal part.

After attending first two classes of Sentence Correction, I could see an increase in my verbal score in the mock tests.

Even though I felt short of my expected score, I would definitely recommend this course especially if you want to increase your Verbal Score.

The only thing which I would suggest to Knewton is to increase the number of mock tests in the courseware from 5 to 8 or 10.

I am 37 years old, and just wanted to get a high enough score to attend an MBA program part time or online. After finishing the Knewton online class, I was able to get score a 720, and now I have more options than I thought possible. It would have been a waste of money to try to take the GMAT without taking Knewton's class first.

Great Test Prep That Will Knever Let You Down

I am a big fan of the Knewton Gmat Prep Course. I took a practice test before taking the course and scored a pathetic 420. After going through the Knewton material and taking their practice tests my scored climbed all the way to 690 (89th percentile).

The Knewton instructors are fun, likeable and make taking the course enjoyable. The way in which the material is presented is excellent (either on demand or in the classroom) but most importantly, the teachers are terrific at getting you to understand not just a particular question from a topic, but also every similar question related to that topic. In this way it is perfect test preparation. I loved the time I spent with Knewton and would encourage anyone taking the GMAT to spend a couple of months with Knewton beforehand.

The scoring in the Knewton CATS is a little confusing and there is no essay prep but all in all Knewton has the best teachers, the best material and is the best value for money.

Can't Beat the Value...Flexible and Engaging

June 21, 2011
  • Teacher: Misc

  • GMAT ScoresBefore: N/A After: 700

I've been telling all of my friends about Knewton, so I guess it's time to write a review.

When I was shopping around for GMAT classes, I noticed that the Knewton program had amazing reviews, just as good as Kaplan or Manhattan GMAT. Oh, and its price was maybe a fifth of those other places (I got a holiday deal or something). Can't beat that value, so I went for it.

The flexibility was great. I decided in late December to apply to business school and needed my GMAT score submitted to schools by mid-February, so I didn't have time for traditional classes or even the twice-a-week online class schedules that Knewton set up. I was able to jump around to several different "live" online classes, watch some archived classes, and attend the majority of the rest of the live online classes within one section in order to fit in all the classes I needed. I was testing well in verbal and needed most of my work on quant sections, so I was able to focus more of my time and effort on those subjects.

I found the live classes with polling and a TA for extra help to be a very effective way of learning, though the pace might be a little fast if you're REALLY behind in a subject. The pace was painfully slow for me on verbal sometimes, but it was great that I could just zone out or grab a snack from the kitchen while waiting for the teacher/other students to move on. The teachers all must be part time comedians or something, as they were always cracking nerdy jokes to keep the lesson interesting. I liked that the teachers would say the virtual students' names as their poll answers came in or as they asked questions -- it definitely kept the classes feeling personal and engaging.

I was initially very surprised that the price didn't come with any written materials, since the other programs give you something like 5 huge study books. Each lesson came with several PDF reviews that could be printed out, but I never did. It would have been helpful to have them as a quick reference. While the quality of the teaching was top notch, this element made me feel like I was taking a "discount" class (which of course, I was).

Despite my praise, I might not be the poster child for this program as far as results go. I got a 710 on my diagnostic, then proceeded to get in the 600s for a few practice tests thereafter and ended up with a 700 on the actual exam. I would have qualified did not watch the last couple classes, do the last few homework assignments, or take the last few practice exams. I would most definitely have qualified for the money-back guarantee but I ran out of time and just had to get on with it and sit for my official GMAT exam.

Knewton provides a solid foundation in both Math and Verbal. I'm still amazed by the number of principles that Knewton stressed and I overlooked when I did my own self-study. Perhaps the best thing about Knewton is the structure it adds to your studies. Knewton helps you avoid wasting critical time on content you already know. I highly recommend Knewton!

I really learnt a lot of concepts around the quantitative and verbal topics related to the GMAT. The course structure is great and I enjoyed the virtual classroom environment. The instructors are knowledgeable and they help in understanding the concepts better. The support staff did a great job with answering my technical queries related to the website's usage and directing my GMAT queries to the respective faculty.

Good solid overview with plenty of practice questions

Knewton provided me with a solid overview of the gmat and a lot of practice questions. They're 6 practice tests also allow one to see exactly how much progress they've made. The online format allowed me to study when worked best for my schedule. One idea for improvement: The program is good at showing you your weaknesses. It was be cool if one could get question after question in a weak area until mastery is shown and then move on to the next area. It might require a good size database of questions, but a computer solution lends itself to this. Just a thought. Overall, good experience for a good price providing a lot of value. Manhattan books afterward have helped me go into more detail on the teaching and practice side to increase my proficiencies even more. Both played a solid role.

I thought the Knewten GMAT prep was excellent. I was nervous about signing up for an online prep class, but the instructors were great! They gave us time to work on problems, explained problems in details, etc. The instructors were also entertaining - it wasn't boring. We didn't get out of class early, which is a plus when you are paying for a reveiw/prep class. I took a GMAT prep class before Knewton and we got out 30 minutes to an hour early every class, which didn't help me prepare for the GMAT. Knewton's use of technoogy was great, and it didn't feel like I was doing an online prep class. My questions were answered quickly either by the aide or the instructor. It was a great prep class and I recommend it to all my friends and family who are studying for the GMAT!! And I'm not just saying that!

what i liked best is that i could bombard faculty staff with all the questions i had - especially with regards to quant - and always got detailed, helpful and timely feedback and explanations. extremely valuable. also i loved being able to take the course from germany and that you can watch on demand sessions as well.

Comprehensive, Easy to Use, Affordable GMAT Prep Course

June 21, 2011
  • Teacher:
  • Recommended forVerbal: Yes  Math: Yes
  • GMAT ScoresBefore: N/A After: 530

Looked at all of the various GMAT prep options out there and decided to go with Knewton. Very flexible, affordable online format that allows user to be involved as much or as little as you would want - up to the student to commit the time to studying. There was an easy to use syllabus available when you login that has an overview of the upcoming lessons as well as recommended times to take practice tests throughout the course (very helpful).

Two lessons per class session allowed one to cover both a verbal and quant. topic, which didn't overwhelm students with just all quant. or just all verbal. Lessons were live (video) if you could make it to the scheduled time (depending on your schedule) where you could ask questions and interact with teachers and other students. If you were unable to make the live lesson, the videos were saved and very easily accessible.

The lessons were taught in a well thought out format which was easy to follow. There were pre-class assessments to see how you do with the topics that were going to be covered, with homework and extra homework following the lesson which were very helpful if you took the time to go through them. As with anything, practice practice practice; Knewton gave plenty of practice problem opportunities for students.

I would recommend the course to other GMAT preppers as a great alternative to the "sit-in" prep courses that wouldn't be in the comfort of your own home. For the price, ease of use and all-encompassing course, it's a no-brainer to use Knewton.

- Teachers were quite knowllagable and effective
- Response time for teacher was fast
- Organised study meterial and mock tests
- one suggestion - can the course be customized? For example candidate with weak in verbal section can concentrate on verbal. He does not have to go through all th quant tests and material to make Knewton happy.

Believe the hype - Knewton is the best!

June 21, 2011
  • Teacher: Adam for Verbal, Chris for Quant

I am probably saying the same thing most other people are saying here: Knewton is absolutely the best and hands-down the way to go if you are taking an online course.

I got tons of individualized attention - they answered all my questions about their questions and they will answer any questions about Q's from the OG (only via email though, since they don't want to spoil that Q for someone who hasn't gone through the OG yet). Also, they will grade any AWA practice essays you do by email (I did a bunch of them, and got a 6 on the actual GMAT, so it was really helpful for me).

The class structure worked well, so I never felt like I was behind. If I had to miss a class, I could just make it up by watching the videos when I had time.

A few reviewers spoke badly of Chris for Quant and I want to clear that up: I took GMAT prep specifically for Quant (I got a 550 on the first practice CAT, with a really low Quant score) and he is absolutely perfect. He broke everything down, explained it really well, has good alternative explanations, and is very patient. Thanks, Chris!

A few people have also said that the Knewton CATs are scored harder - meaning you would get a lower score for the same number of wrong questions than you would have on the actual GMAT. Yes I think that's true. I took my last CAT two or three days before the test and got a 730 and then got a 760 on the actual test. I had gotten consistent high 600's scores on the previous Knewton CATs and consistent scores around 700 on the OG practice CATs. That being said, don't count on the score bump. Just know it's there and focus on the material and how the questions are asked. The more questions you do, the more standardized formats you will see, and the better you will do on the test.

Thanks, Knewton! You rock!

PS - Knewton is also the cheapest (by FAR) and BTG can hook you up with some awesome promo codes. I think I only paid $300 for my course.

Used it to cram, awesome at test day

I took their diagnostic test for free, and scored a 710. Knewton has a 50 point guarantee, so I signed up. I felt the fee would be well worth the price if I scored a 760.
I started out taking the live courses, but I fell behind quickly. I eventually stopped altogether. The great part about Knewton, though, was that all the lessons and practice problems were online, so I was able to access them when I had the time.
I had the week before the exam off, so I spent 12 hours a day for 8 days straight studying through Kaplan (the only other thing I used really were the free official practice tests available from the GMAT people). The course was adaptive, told me what I needed to work on, and allowed me to budget my time in the most efficient manner possible.
Test day rolled around, I expected a 720 or 730, figured I'd get my money back from Knewton, and still be happy with my score.
Imagine my (happy) surprise when a 770 came back at the end of the test. Knewton can keep the money :).

Being a computer-based course definitely prepared me for the computerized test. The classes were helpful, the practice problems, quizzes, and tests even moreso. I have been talking Knewton up to everyone I know that's thinking about taking any of the tests they offer prep for.

Thanks Knewton!

My story is a bit unique. I had already been admitted to my school of choice before I started the Knewton course. My score was fine, but not great. I wanted improve my score and get over the 7-handle threshold so that my score would not eliminate me from some of the top consulting and IB jobs. The top three firms in each industry want to see 700+.

Based on my busy work and home life, Knewton was perfect for me. I have been able to study at my own pace at various hours during the day and night. The sessions are fun and interesting. We all know the material can be brutal to slog through but the Knewton instructors kept the material fresh and lively. I found myself, for the first time, excited about logging on and checking out what was next on my syllabus.

Overall, I would have to recommend the Knewton program to anyone. How can you not try it?!? Money back guarantee! What are you waiting for?

Knewton, course is structured to start with the basics and end with difficult stuff.
The whole course is structured in a very organised manner.
The homework takes the cream, each problem is very very carefully chosen. There is a lot to learn from each problem. After doing all the homework, and you actually give CAT's of other companies, including the official Gmat, you will feel completly at home.
Highly recommended.

The Knewton GMAT Prep Course is an online based GMAT prep software - perfect for someone who needs to study at their own pace and schedule. I am nearly half-way through the course and have been very impressed with

a) the layout of the site
b) quality of instructors
c) quality of study material
***AND MOST IMPORTANTLY ***
d) The GMAT practice tests on Knewton are THE BEST among all GMAT prep courses.

The many members of the several GMAT forums online are not lying when they reference the quality of the Knewton GMAT practice tests to those of competitors. These many reviews were the main driving force to get me to sign up with Knewton and I've been pleasantly surprised with the entire package offered.
