GMAT is not a test of your curricular abilities. Its a test to measure your management aptitude. As a manager you are expected to have a certain set of analytical skills and although you can develop your skills over a period of time you may or may not have that much time before you take the GMAT. Knewton's GMAT prep course arms with you with tools, tricks and tips to take on the GMAT head on and work your way through the various sections to get a score worthy of getting into a good business school. Knewton's teachers are experts in their respective fields and make the whole GMAT preparation experience fun and easy which takes the "load" of preparing for such an exam away. I would recommend this to anyone who is planning to take the GMAT or is working on improving upon their existing GMAT score.

Knewton took me from averaging around 500 to 600. The course offers 13 different three hour lessons, six practice tests, and more than 3,800 practice problems.

I purchased the Knewton course in October and began studying for the GMAT in February. Before using the Knewton course, I wasn't breaking 500 on any of my practice tests. After about two months of attempting one lesson plan per week my test averages steadily began increasing until test day.

The best thing that I enjoyed about Knewton was the fact that you can watch the lessons live or, if you have other plans/responsibilities, watch the video lesson "On-Demand" at a more convenient time. I also enjoyed the progress reports that Knewton uses to evaluate your progress throughout the course.

Knewton also offers equations of everything that will be on the GMAT to help you grasp the technical side better, and after every "homework" assignment due Knewton lists key equations that it feels you may need to touch up on.

What really drew me to Knewton was the money back guarantee. If you have taken the GMAT previously, Knewton will guarantee a 50 point increase or your money back. However, if you're like me and haven't taken the GMAT, Knewton offers the first of its six practice GMAT's and bases your money back guarantee on whatever you score there.

Knewton is very cheap compared to most GMAT test prep companies and offers an interactive, user-friendly environment to help you prepare for the big day. If you have the money and time I highly recommend Knewton.

Exceeded Expectations

I had a wonderful experience with Knewton and would recommend it to anyone looking to prepare for or improve their GMAT score.

Rich Z and Jen R were delightful, informative and fun. I actually looked forward to attending their live classes and was disappointed when I didn't have time and had to watch a pre recorded class with someone else (although those were great too). The live classes were crucial - I was able to get on the spot assistance without disrupting the rest of the class.

The material was very detailed and easy to understand. The site easy to navigate and I thought it was great that Knewton was able to "graph" out your problem areas so you knew where to concentrate your studies.

The only thing I felt I that could be improved (and this is being picky) is to add practice problems to the individual study concepts. Fortunately, the homework assignments were very focused on each concept. Other than that I have no complaints about the program.

Best of all, it improved my score from a 530 to a 650 I was able to get accepted to a top 20 MBA program - well beyond what I expected to!

Thanks Knewton!

Knewton GMAT classes provide enough detail and hand-holding to get you through but not so much that you're bored to tears. The homework was far and away the most helpful part of the course but you didn't have to spend hours and hours working on it. I felt that the balance focus on math and verbal provided the ideal study plan for me. In addition, Knewton's unique monitoring system allowed me to focus on the areas that were in need of improvement. Thank you Knewton!

I Recommend Knewton

My score increased by 110 points! I believe that if I'd given myself more time before retaking the test, I could've increased even more. However, I retook the test only four days after my last day of class with Knewton. I attended all of the lectures and completed all of the core assignments - which includes completing all of their practice cats. Other than that, I honestly did not do anything else. So my score increase was based purely on doing my Knewton assignments.

My practice cat scores were something like 530, 610, 630, 530, 610. I came up short on the real exam with a 590, but it was still a notable increase. On the actual GMAT my quant score was way higher than my practice cats and my verbal actually remained the same from the first time I took the test. Go figure... I think I was really burned out and ran out of steam at the end. It's true what they say, skip taking another practice cat the day before the exam! My brain was mush, I probably would've done better if I'd taken that advice.

At first I was hesitant about taking an online course. I really wanted to take an on-site class. However, Knewton's schedule fit my timeframe and the price was right so I went for it. The teachers were engaging and the online classroom was much better than I thought it would be. There is a video so you can see your instructor speaking, another section that serves as a "white board" and a small chatbox for you to communicate with your instructors and other students. You can even ask questions privately to the teachers. When you miss a class you can go back and watch, plus there are office hours throughout the week(that I never attended) where they go over problems.

My only complaint would be that the classes often ran over time. Sometimes by as much as 30 minutes! Other than that, I'd say that Knewton is the complete package.

Knewton, with all of its excellent teachers, does an excellent job of preparing its students for the GMAT. The classes that are taught (13 in total, which is more than other companies offer) are accessible in a LIVE Format, which allows for real-time questions, or a pre-recorded class if your time is limited.

The teachers are professional but funny, and they KNOW what it's like to take a GMAT.

The computer algorithm used by Knewton is too complicated for this English major but the end result is as follows: When I have trouble with a certain concept, it knows and sends me extra "help work" to refine my skills.

All in all, the fear of this big test is subsiding because I'm getting it! And I have Knewton to thank!

After my score of 550 in GMAT and wanting to re-write to achieve a better score, I was pondering about an affordable and more economical GMAT course and there I saw Knewton's! But until I read some reviews on Beat The GMAT community, I was not sure if the course will be effective and worthy. The reviews were good and I signed up for the course.

Once the courses started, I started looking at GMAT with a different perspective - Those sections (Reading Comprehension, Critical Reasoning, Data Sufficiency) that used to scare me, were no more making me nervous. I owe that shift of nervousness to confidence towards approaching GMAT questions to the strategies unveiled and taught by the finest instructor of Knewton - Rich Zwelling. Rich Zwelling's way of teaching, an in depth analysis, the tips and intricacies of arriving at the correct answer is outstanding! Can't ask for more! :-)

The Pre and Post assessments, homework, on-demand videos, concept queues, extra practice, extra focus lessons laid strong foundations on the approach, strategies and time management which are the most critical factors of cracking the GMAT. And most importantly, all these would be available for the student for a year from their date of enrollment. I feel that's a great opportunity to go back and forth and look at the concepts, do extra practices, learn some strategies that you missed on the class via On-demand videos, focus more on the concepts that you feel hard. My exam is at the end of August and I am still using Knewton's course materials for my preparation along with other materials.

Overall, my experience in attending Knewton's GMAT course was great! I am totally happy about choosing Knewton for my preparation and I would strongly recommend it to anyone who is preparing for GMAT.

Good luck to everyone!

Knewton helped me to a 760

April 19, 2011

Knewton was fantastic. I started using Knewton GMAT back in January and finished taking my GMAT yesterday, April 19th in Seoul, Korea.

I took my first practice GMAT diagnostic using Knewton and scored a 540. This is about what I would expect since I didn't even remember what an integer was. I started taking the courses, but because of the time zone difference, I never actually attended an online session with Knewton. However that didn't matter. The video on demand was fantastic, and the course content was extremely helpful. The course starts from the beginning (and I relearned very basic quant and verbal concepts) and works its way up. I also utilized their AWA feedback service and scoring, and I think the feedback I received was excellent.

I finished up the Knewton content by the end of February, and I took practice tests throughout this process and increased through the 600's and eventually into the 700s. Eventually I took the final Knewton practice test and scored a 760 (99%) with a quant score of 48(82%) and a verbal score of 47(99%). My actual GMAT score was EXACTLY the same as my last Knewton test (Q, V, and total). So I have to say that I am extremely impressed.

For the value Knewton is excellent. The only prep materials I ended up using were the offical GMAT guides and prep tests. Otherwise, Knewton is a one stop shop.

Knewton - Superb course, Unbelievable Value

I wanted to write and let everyone sweating the choice of which GMAT course to take what I think about the Knewton course.

When initially scoping out the courses myself, I looked at Manhattan, Kaplan, and Knewton. I sat through the trial class of Manhattan and likely would have chosen them if they had not been sold out for the session that I picked. Looking back on that, I'm glad it worked out that way.

From what I can tell from the trial Manhattan session I attended and the Knewton classes that I've finished, the differences between the two are limited from a structure standpoint. For one Manhattan makes use of user microphones allowing students to actually talk in the classes themselves. If you're person who needs to physically talk to a teacher to ask a question, this might be a big deal. For me, it was actually kind of annoying trying to hear people lay with microphones and try to talk all the time. Also, Manhattan limits class size, which would be required when trying to make use of microphones and trying to "pull" people into class by calling on them to answer questions verbally.

Knewton on the other hand has no obvious class size limit that I can tell. This means that if a particular class session works for you, it's available. This was important to me as I was taking the GMAT on somewhat of a short notice. In order to handle the larger class sizes, Knewton employs an interesting technique of moderated chat. All questions in class are "filtered" by TA's while class is in session. If your question is relevant to the class, it is displayed and discussed by all. If your question is private or somehow off topic, the TA's answer the question back to privately. In practice, it works really well and keeps class moving along nicely. I never felt as if I couldn't get a question in.

The Knewton software itself is pretty slick. The web interface is visually appealing and works extremely well. There is plenty of homework to keep you busy as well practice CATs. I did every standard homework and 2 practice CATs from Knewton. There were additional practice homework that I didn't do as I had no time due to work obligations. Also, every class is taped, along with versions from other instructors as well. If you miss a class, you have at least 3 versions of each class to choose from, which is a nifty way of checking out the other teachers as well.

The classes themselves were very useful. The topics covered and methods used were extremely relevant to the actual exam. The only topic not extensively covered during the normal class was the 2 essays, which do have pre-recorded sessions you can watch on them. In addition, as you go through the course, you can see graphs of how well you did on particular gmat topics through nifty bar charts. These charts can easily show you what topics you scored poorly on in your previous homework and thus what you need to concentrate on most. I don't think they emphasize this feature enough on the site. It's brilliant!

The two instructors I had, Rich Zwelling and Chris Wu were very good. They are both extremely personable and make it a pleasure to come to class. They both had effective teaching styles with clear explanations of the material. It was obvious from their handling of external class questions that they knew the material well.

On top of the excellent material above, the class price was unbelievable. I'm sure this is enabled by removing the class size restriction, but the value here blows away everyone else out there. I will never second guess my choice to choose Knewton.

As for my personal performance, I believe Knewton helped me quite a bit. I took my first CAT cold, without any courses or prep and scored a 570. I took two Knewton CATs and scored 710's. In the actual GMAT I scored a 750. In all, well worth the money.

What good would any review be without some critiques?
There is a little awkwardness in the Knewton software when trying to return to the syllabus or your previous 'current session' page after doing a CAT, doing homework, or viewing a class. there's no smooth way to get back to where you were before doing any of the above activities. You almost have to go back to the login page if you don't open these activities "in new windows." Also, the Syllabus page loads a little slow the later you get into the class, as it is updating information from all of your previous classes. Lastly, there were quite a few "failures" of the microphone checks at the beginning of classes. The instructors normally do a sound check 1-2 minutes before class starts. If the check fails, they have to either change "pods" or reboot whatever PC they are using. This can take a good 5 minutes to get sorted out. I should also note that based on the number of questions folks ask in the class, a session could go 15-30 minutes longer than the scheduled time. I would call this occurrence often if not frequent.
In all, all of these are minor nuisances that I'm sure they will work out (especially after reading this review! :) )

Good Investment, Good teachers but the course could be better spread out and elaborate

March 9, 2011

I took up Knewton after preparing on my own for about 2 months for my second attempt and realizing that I was unable to go past the 600 barrier. There was obviously a flaw in my approach. And the flaw was that I was not disciplined enough and I was just unable to cover all the minor points that are needed when you sit for the GMAT.

Needless to say Knewton helped me a lot in terms of building up my confidence with its elaborate question bank. I must admit that although I just had a 1 point increment on my quants score and a 4 point increment on my verbal score, I felt my quants performance was much better than my last attempt in Nov'07 and during my preparatory period before taking up Knewton.

Verbal content is good as well but I felt that the class room sessions, especially those of verbals should have been slightly more elaborate. Instead of a 13 session module, they should spread the content out more and maybe offer 15 sessions.

The best part about Knewton was the availability of content on demand, both in Video format as well as written form online. The language used is very elementary making it extremely easy for the student to understand and the tiny 1 min videos about concepts are really nice.

For an internet lover like me, nothing is more appealing than having access to quality GMAT training right here in my training. As long as you are willing to wake up at 5 am or stay up late at night between 12-3 am, you have access to their live classrooms sessions with the ability to answer questions during the session and also see you performance relative to the entire class.

I could not make much use of the office hours but from what I did experience, I believe that they are a great resource too.

To sum it up, Knewton was able to take me almost halfway through to my goal of scoring a 700 from a 590 and I am thankful to them for that. Its a great course, extremely innovative and convenient. The only downside I felt was lack of live help and a few convenient modifications to the preparatory material online in order to make it more user friendly.

Live help is something that they can work on if there are more people like me who don't really enjoy waiting for 24 hrs to get a reply to a question. Although I must accept that e-mail help was given by tutors who are extremely competent and who knew exactly how to phrase the answers in a way that a student could easily understand.

I have access to this course for a full year and at this moment am contemplating if I should give GMAT another try and try to improve my score to a 700 :). Lets see what the future holds :P

Cheers everyone and thank you Knewton

Overall great course. I used on-demand videos for the entire program, opposed to live courses. The video service & quality of the teachers was truly unparalleled.

Quant: Knewton does an excellent job at covering all of the fundamental topics in great depth. While it covers the fundamental topics with great clarity, it does not go into nearly as much detail as Manhattan GMAT nor does it offer as many 700+ level quant problems (but for me, this was a not a bad thing!)

Verbal: This is truly where Knewton shines. I received a verbal score of 47 and attribute this to Knewton's amazing verbal material.

I would highly recommend the Knewton course. However, the reason I gave the course 4 stars instead of 5 is because I firmly believe that their CAT algorithm is flawed. They have told me otherwise, but I am far from convinced. I fluctuated between 680 and 710 on all 6 of Knewton's CATs, and on the final CAT I scored a 45 on the quant but only missed 3 problems. I know that the test is adaptive, but there is no way that missing only 3 problems in the quant section on the actual GMAT would drop the score that low (for instance, on multiple attempts with the GMATPrep official CAT, I missed 10-12 on the quant section and still scored 47-49).

I learned very quickly that doing GMAT prep on the computer was more effective than with written material since the test is given on computers. Knewton is a great value too, one full year of prep for a low rate in my case it worked out to $5.36 per point increase. The quantitative review was especially helpful for me and my teacher Brigidette Crowe was very good.
If you are doing GMAT prep I would strongly recommend looking carefully at Knewton before spending more somewhere else.

Knewton GMAT is a great way to prep for the GMAT Exam. First off it is one of the most affordable live online courses that I found and beat out Kaplan and other programs by more than $100. It also gives you access for a full year which is pretty cool. My first practice test was pathetic, I scored a 530 and was really depressed. The program built up my competency and has a TON of material for those of us that needed a lot of basic quant review. I was able to catch up fast and scored a 650 on the real test and even felt I could have done better because the test was a breeze. I have recommended it to two of my friends and they both signed up for it and love it. Don't fall for that "name brand" bologna that programs like Kaplan throw at you. Kewton is the real deal!

I signed up with Knewton because they have a 50 point money back guarantee. That meant I had nothing to lose. You can watch live classes or watch them on demand, which was very convenient. You can also sign up for a free trial, making the decision a lot easier. There are even a lot of promotions that happen often (just look for them online) and you'll be able to save up to half the original price. There are 6 practice GMAT CATs as well as lots of homework assignments and practice problems to help you prepare. The teachers are really great, and since the classes are also available on demand, you can decide which teacher you want to learn from. Every question has detailed information so you can learn exactly where you are making mistakes or why one answer choice is better than the other. They give you lots of tips and tricks, and for that alone the course is well worth the money.

The downside: I studied for the GMAT on my own before taking the course so I had done a lot of practice problems. If you haven't studied before then there may not be enough practice problems on the site and you may need to purchase a GMAT practice book with additional questions.

Knewton: An excellent value that works

November 12, 2010

I signed up for Knewton GMAT prep after I had been disappointed with my self-study performance (official score of only 640). I was attracted to Knewton's product by its low price, self-paced nature, and of course, the 50 point guarantee.

The course itself exceeded my expectations. There was plenty of class time (12 3-hour sessions) and copious amounts of homework and extra work to complete. I liked the interactive nature of the classes in which the instructor would present practice problems to check for understanding. I thoroughly used the recorded class and office hours feature that allowed me to watch a missed class or tackle extra problems at my convenience. All problem solutions and concepts were also thoroughly explained.

However, while Knewton provided the core knowledge, it didn't "click" for me until I took a dizzying amount of practice tests. I took the 5 Knewton CATS, the two official practice CATS, and repeated the official CATS once more. Taking numerous practice tests and learning from my mistakes really helped bump my score up. Worth noting is that my Knewton CAT scores weren't that great, I never scored higher than a 650. Perhaps their algorithm is too harsh, because the problems were fairly close to official problems.

When test day arrived I was calm and confident that I could hit my goal of 700+ and I didn't panic like I had in my previous attempt. In the end I scored an even 700 (Q45, V40), a full 60 points higher than my previous score attained with only self study. I attribute Knewton and a lot of practice with helping me reach my goal. Thanks Knewton!
