I was trying to self study for the GMAT on my own for a few months but was not getting anywhere. I finally signed up for Knewton based partly on the great reviews they received on Beat The GMAT. I couldn't be more satisfied. It helped me focus my studying with great teachers and lots and lots of questions. I went from 500 on the pre-diagnostic to getting 600 on the test and into the school of my choice. I would highly recommend this course to anyone, in my co-worker started the course shortly after me and is equally as satisfied.

Though it has only been a couple of weeks since i've started using this course , I can already say that I am on the right track of getting a 760+ . What I lacked in my first gmat attempt was an organized study plan , I used to study whatever i could get my hands on , without giving much thought to how this would effect my eventual GMAT score . Knewton does a good job in organizing the GMAT content for me , excellently ! - core homework including after class assignments , and pre-assessment tests do a great job in building a solid core on which you can build your gmat foundation on , office hours are excellent in terms of providing in depth analysis of questions .
Content and video instruction quality is top notch . Not only the instructors know the gmat inside out , they make the classes interesting - eg Jen Rugani's dancing when majority of the class gets a question correct , keeps things interesting especially when one is required to learn a seemingly boring concept :)

I joined the Knewton course that started in last week of April and completed in early June. While I am still studying for GMAT, Knewton course and instructors are really cook. Jen and Rich are very knowledgeable and make GMAT look easy. There are plenty of quizzes and practice tests to take advantage of. I haven't taken the actual GMAT yet, and only attempted two Knewton tests until now. Got a 550 on the first (the day before my course started, when I didn't even know the intricacies of GMAT pattern) and then scored 640 about 3 weeks later in the middle of the course. I believe Knewton definitely gave me all the required fundamentals and much more and I am really satisfied. The classes work similar to what is expected from any prep company. One instructor teaches the concepts while the other helps with questions. They give a lot of questions to practice in class after teaching a concept. Knewton is also good at replying to questions via email within 24 hours. The concept queue system is cool - you can find weak areas and study them without the need to analyze what to improve. While I plan to take my GMAT after a couple of months, I refer to the classes and material on a daily basis in tandem with my other books.

In short, Knewton is definitely one of the best prep courses, and for a fraction of what most others charge.

I really enjoyed the Knewton online course and found it to be exceptionally user friendly. I also loved the adaptive characteristics and really saw improvement over the course. Go Knewton! I've taken a the Kaplan course before, but Knewton online wins hands down in terms of flexibility and customization.

I loved the course. I work full time, so watching the videos and going through materials on my own pace was very important. The purchase expires in a year, so you can take GMAT multiple times if you are not satisfied.

I moved to US just a year ago, so my English is not that great. However Knewton helped me to get 80% on Verbal, Math didn't go that well. But overall score is good.

They give very good tips for guessing on the test depending on type of question.

Teachers are super friendly and helpful!

Overall I highly recommend this course.

Teaching methods and material

  • GMAT ScoresBefore: 580 After: 650

Hi all,

Firstly I would recommend Knewton because of their teaching method and here is why -
1) All teachers are highly qualified and have scored 99 percentile.
2) They teach you exactly what is needed for GMAT, I have seen some courses sway away from the actual GMAT contents which is a distraction to your course study.
3) They also explain on how we can anticipate the traps and answers.

Secondly Knewton's study material -
1) All the questions are carefully chosen and closely mirror on what you see in the actual GMAT. You can say Knewton material can be your second Official guide.
2) The online tool is simply awesome and adapts as you go on with the course. Hence preparing you for the basics first.
3) Knewton 6 tests are awesome and you can expect the score you get on actual GMAT to be around + or - 20 points from the Knewton test.

However one negative I found out about the tests
Math scaled scores are very low and Verbal scaled scores are high.

Thanks Knewton

Great course if you're in the working world

I've tried a myriad of GMAT classes before this one (MGMAT, Princeton Review, etc.)

This class is perfect for the working world because it was so versatile and you can adjust it to your work schedule.

Be warned: at first, there wasn't that much coursework, but if you're working 50+ hours, you will be a little strained for free time as the class goes on, especially if you try to utilize this course to it's maximum potential! (ie. doing all the homework, going to the study sessions, etc.)

Overall, my score did improve after taking this course. I still haven't taken the exam because I'm not where I think I should be, but I will be in that range "soon."

Shout out to Rich Zwelling & Chris Wu my instructor. No question was too dumb for him to answer. My verbal instructor was also awesome... I can't remember his name for the life of me though.

I took a three months online course and enjoyed it. The live interactive class session was once a week but there were a couple archived classes with different teachers on each topic. Plenty of study and practice materials. Great support by email if I had any Qs.
By the end of the course my average score on practice tests was 700 but I got a bit nervous during the actual test and scored 670.

I completed my Knewton GMAT prep course a few months ago. I am currently reviewing concepts and getting in more practice before my second attempt at the GMAT. I had rushed into my first attempt at the GMAT trying to beat an admissions deadline. That was a mistake. I did not understand that GMAT math questions were puzzle first, math second. After completing the Knewton course, I feel much more prepared to tackle the test and I am confident that I will score much higher on my second attempt.

Knewton's instructors are excellent. The classes move at a good pace and there are Teacher Assistants (TAs) monitoring and quickly answering any and all questions posed by the students.

Knewton provides a ton of online content including on demand video. All concepts are covered either in class or on the website and there are lots of practice questions. Knewton also provides full length practice tests which are very similar to the actual exam.

I had a great experience with Knewton and would recommend it to anyone preparing for the GMAT.

I found the online course helpful in keeping me on course for my GMAT appointment. Knewton had as much, or in some cases, as little material that I had the time to review. Extra quizzes and homework helped with my studying preparation. Access to the material for a year is helpful as well as I plan to give it one more try.

I have yet to finally take my GMAT but my teachers - Brigette and (I think it was) Alison were great. Very supportive. If I were Knewton though, I would improve the on-screen writing tools that instructors use. Plus an Android app would make studying on-the-go (and off-line) extremely useful. I still look forward to taking my GMAT and I am not tired of the process (thanks to Knewton's easy-going and fun style) but more follow-up and personal interaction might have encouraged me to take the test sooner. Thanks!

My Experience in a Knewon Course

June 21, 2011
  • Teacher:
  • Recommended forVerbal: Yes  Math: Yes
  • GMAT ScoresBefore: N/A After: 730

I started out quite weak on my GMAT skills, getting about 600 on my diagnostic test. This was after I had been studying for the test a few weeks on my own. I had been working through the problems on the official guide and not really getting anywhere.

What I really needed was expert instruction on HOW to solve all the different types of problems that I would encounter, as well as tips on how to approach the test.

I looked around online for the best GMAT class, and based on reviews as well as price, I picked Knewton. In fact, Beat the GMAT's official reviews were one of the things that made me choose that program.

I personally study best with a personal tutor, and I feel like Knewton was the most economical way for me to get that kind of instruction. While, of course, you are in a virtual classroom with many other students, the teacher and the assistants were always ready to help with any question.

I really liked the online format, because it meant I could study whenever and wherever I wanted. I loved the webcast classes and being able to watch them on demand if necessary. It was also amazing that every test question and practice problem had a very detailed explanation with links to articles with more info. That was so helpful. Say I was doing a math problem and it involved sets of numbers. There was a "category" listing where I could visit a detailed explanation of sets so that I knew exactly what to do. WOW!

I also liked the "reward" system that Knewton uses where if you don't complete your homework and/or watch the class, you have a "red dot." Once you complete them, you get a "green dot." It was strangely motivating. I just know my subconscious was thinking: "I must get all the green dots to beat the game!"

While, on the whole, I was very pleased with my instructors and the course, there were a few things that were frustrating. For example, I was able to bring my Knewton practice test scores up to about 650, but never really got past that. My Knewton math scores did not improve AT ALL during the course. This was not because of laziness. I averaged about 3 hours per day of study for two months before the test, and most of that time I studied the math problems. However, when I took the two official practice tests, I got a 780 and a 750. When I took the real GMAT, I actually got a higher math than verbal score, ending up with a 730.

I'm not sure why, but the math questions on the Knewton full length practice tests seemed much harder to me than the official tests. In addition, the verbal questions were much easier than on the "real" GMAT. This might be on purpose, or it might be just a faulty test writing, but it was really frustrating to work so hard and improve so little on the Knewton tests.

But, the class really did help me. I brought my verbal score up from average to excellent. This was almost solely due to the incredible verbal teacher I had (an english major from Harvard...!).

I am very glad that I found Knewton. It really made a huge difference in my score.

After doing a practice test on Knewton as well as from the OG, I realized that I needed way more help than I had thought. I can do pretty well on verbal, but the quantitative portion for me is the most difficult (and I always thought I had a fairly high aptitude for math). I have not yet completed the course, but so far I like the way everything is organized. The video lessons are pretty straight forward and you can view them as many times as you would like. I have never taken an online test prep course before, but I was impressed with the amount of printable material that is offered with Knewton. The video professors are all very likable and explain concepts clearly. I have yet to take the GMAT, so only time will tell if this course is truly effective. I like what I see so far though.

Knewton has been great!! It's flexible and fits with my schedule. It took me a couple of times to figure out which section was right for me and that was okay. Switching was easy. The price is incredible and the service is second to none. Emails are always returned quickly and I never felt like I was distanced even though I was an online learner. I would recommend Knewton to anyone.

Knewton is an excellent source for studying for the GMAT, especially for individuals who are trying to study while still working full time. The instructors make the online experience very interactive and easy to understand as if you were in a classroom.

It was very flexible with my schedule because all courses are recorded and available on demand if I missed it due to a business meeting or travel so it was very easy to catch up. Also, if there is an area you struggle with you can watch the class as many times as you want, even with different instructors!

I would highly recommend this course for content and flexibility!

I chose this course because I needed something to fit into my schedule and the money-back guarantee was definitely a bonus. I was very pleased with the content and the course set-up. It was easy to see what sections I still needed to cover. The live lectures were fun where you can interact with other students and ask your questions on the spot to the teacher. I also watched pre-recorded lectures. It was nice to go back over the material or if I missed a live lecture to make-up a lecture. I ended up not re-taking the GMAT because I got a job (yay for me) but I thought the course was helping me to a better score.
